Discussion: O'Reilly Bombshell: Tapes Show He Didn't Witness JFK Figure's Suicide

He’s our own Fibber McGee.

Actually bill-o misspoke, he meant to say his ghost writer was present at all these events (including substituting for him in the draft).

I’ve entertained the same first reaction. But my mind’s changed.

People don’t credit BillO enough for the success of FNC. Ailes gets more credit, because BillO’s show constitutes under 3% of FNC on-air time. But it’s a critical 3%; without BillO there to ‘anchor’ FNC, the rest would still exist, but it’d be more down around CNN and MSNBC at most. BillO’s unique: he’s the best bullshitter on ‘serious’ news.

So, leaving aside that BillO ain’t gonna live forever and is about to enter his declining years, with FNC’s ratings dominance among oldsters likely to follow, what this whole line of stories that David Corn’s set in motion accomplishes is to get the FNC demo talking first not about what manure BillO is spreading but what the issue of his being a bullshitter or not. Sure, lots of BillO & FNC supporters are acting all ultra-dismissive (not unlike yourself), but that’s early herd panic, and it’ll be replaced with a quicker dismissal of what BillO SAYS than otherwise.

IOW this will render BillO more speedily irrelevant. And FNC really doesn’t have a replacement - not Hannity and not any of the blondies.BillO’s got a weird and destructive type of talent, but it’s both unique and, surprisingly, more fragile now than ever before.

It’ll turn out to be right after. Okay not one day after, more like 2000 years and change after. But regardless, BillO filled his vow to “get this guy”.

Self-aggrandizing asshole aggrandizes asshole self! World non-reels in non-amazement!

Publisher of O’Reilly screed says lying is immaterial. The book makes money, the publisher said. Do I have to draw you a map?

What Reilly happened was Bill saw a picture of the house where the suicide took place.

There’s a simple explanation. When he said he was knocking on the man’s door when the gunshot went off, he simply meant that he saw pictures of the dead man later.

Wait a sec…he made a “children’s version” of Killing Kennedy?

I was wondering about that as well. I guess it goes along with his book with creeptastic advice for young boys.

Of course they do - you have to stand behind the cash cow to suck off the cream.

I think this time he will need to go with the claim that he was speaking metaphorically…

I have doubts that will happen. Basically because so many people of gone after O’Reilly’s lies, so regularly, and it never makes much of a dent. This time got a little bit more spot light because of the Brian Williams comparison…but it won’t go much further. Its just an endless rathole.

Two things rise to the top: Cream and Pond Scum

“Bill O’Reilly’s fight over his credibility.”

That’s funny. I didn’t know the angry guy from Inside Edition had any credibility.

Fox is worried about their credibility? That’s new.

Oh, they do. That’s why they blather on and on about ‘fair and balanced.’ They don’t give a damn about being fair and balanced but they sure want their viewers to believe that because the minute their audience realizes how badly they’ve been screwed, FOX is toast. So rather than acknowledge that O’Lielly has problems they’ve tried to brush it under the rug, but so many crumbs are showing up now that we’ll see.

Al Franken got Billy to yell “Shut up. shut up” at him for explaining at a political book fair why Franken’s “Lying Liars…” book had O’Reilly on the cover. A.F told the story about B.O. claiming he got two Peabody awards while working at Inside Edition in the 80s. “But this was incorrect,” Franken said. In fact the show won a Polk award for work done after O’Reilly left. LOL Billy’s a walking, talking, lying joke.

FNC fans don’t care that they lie. Not in the least. They see Fox as molding the “news” to serve a higher value than truth. If the lies promote what they think of as capitalism, freedom, and Christian values, lying is just fine with them. The end justifies the means. Truth is irrelevant to the “news” enterprise. They are moral imbeciles.

Well, it WAS a children’s story, and who here has not told a five year old a self aggrandizing bedtime story that makes you look like a super hero?
