I’ve watched the video of it. I thought his attorney did SUCH a good job of portraying him as a peaceful responsible caring thoughtful now stable citizen. It was just that last bit, after the ruling; really. Technically, the hearing, certainly the formal part of the court appearance, was already over. So, it’s kind of almost unfair to hold it against him that he went absolutely bananas when, as I’m sure his attorney had already informed him beforehand, he learned he was being denied release.

I think it’s worth noting that (according to OPB), most of the occupiers thought Fry was a nut and wanted him gone, but Lavoy Finicum took him under his wing and convinced the others to let him stay. So Lavoy not only took his own life with his suicide by cop, he probably helped Fry spiral further downward.
