I’m pretty sure she was joking.
I remember a similar refrain from many corners back in June of 2015.
Dr. Phil for SecState.
Please God no.
One “TV Star” president is more than enough for me thank you.
I’ve got to say, I remain a staunch fan of the old school model whereby a person works his/her way up the ladder of public service and public office. Anything else is bullshit.
Nothing against Oprah. And I’m almost sure she isn’t serious.
But this continued disrespect for and insult to the office of the presidency is just heartbreaking.
“That’s what I said!” Winfrey replied. “I thought ‘Oh gee I don’t have the experience, I don’t know enough,’
And you know what, Oprah? You were right! The fact that a sociopathic criminal has lied and stolen his way to the presidency shouldn’t make you change your mind.
No doubt Oprah is infinitely more competent than Trump. But still she has surely talked with enough allegedly wise people in her career to know that you should pattern yourself only after the best in other people, not the worst.
No one including me could dislike her, but there’s no such thing as a “self-made man – nay, person”.
They’ve all had the help of money making more money and the ability to hire competent business mgrs.
I would vote for you
Up until now, we’ve never had the lethal combination of:
- The hubris of a totally unqualified individual to believe he would be great President; and
- The stupidity of enough of the American voting population to buy it.
I’m hoping we can now move away from this “experiment.”
Let’s take a step back here… President Obama was a one-term Senator who vaulted into that Senate seat because of a sex scandal that caused the GOP candidate to drop out… and as I remember the '08 campaign, his inexperience was talked about quite a bit. (Pulling together a billion dollar campaign organization was trotted out as proof of his “executive” capability.)
Oprah built a multi-billion dollar media empire from scratch and has genuine cred on the charitable giving front. She’s also solid on women’s issues, LGBT rights, civil rights – you name it – and fighting poverty. She has shown the ability to dive into issues and surround herself with the right experts… so I suspect that if she is serious, she won’t go in half-assed liked some celebrities.
I think your summation of Obama’s biography is a bit short on all the training and experience he had leading up to his time in the U.S. Senate. In truth, he spent his entire life getting ready to run for President.
Oprah/The Rock 2020, because at this point why the fuck not
The answer to hate and incompetence is not love and incompetence.
The Democratic Party needs to get their shit together, get a common message and goals and start acting like a party that has a vision, has the answers to lead the country.
I’d be tempted as well but it would be more fun trashing him - as a Republican. A lot to consider.
@theghostofeustacetilley
Who would take Maya Angelou’s place in reading a poem at the Winfrey Inauguration? I nominate Gilbert Gottfried.
Nope. One “TV star” in the White House is plenty, thanks.
I don’t think Oprah’s ready for ThunderDome.
I’m gonna take a step back from all of you. This has worked quite successfully twice now for the GOP. In fact, twice in 37 years. And although Obama certainly had the resume and the chops, do not underestimate his celebrity and star power. Oprah isn’t just a celebrity. She also happens to be an actual journalist and a fairly well educated one at that. I’m not saying she’s my first choice or anything like that, but we sure as shit could do worse . Hell, we could do worse picking from even a few Senate Democrats with a lifetime of experience. Because, while we’re too good for that and throwing out noses in the air, PP is president, a guy from The Real World is a congressman, the assholes from Duck Dynasty are kingmakers, and two of the last four Republican presidents are/were actors.
I believe Oprah would be a vast improvement on Trump, but that’s not really setting the bar very high. Let’s get back to qualified people running our country. There is going to be a hell of a lot of rebuilding of America’s institutions and credibility after this disaster of a president, and we’ll need actual qualified people to do it.
