I missed where she’s the candidate’s mouthpiece. I thought she spoke for the senator. There is, or usually is, anyway, a difference.
She, not he.
And that difference is usually highlighted by having a new press secretary onboard when the candidate makes his official announcement. In Cruz’s case, she was that person.
