Discussion: Ohio Republicans Fail To Override Kasich Veto Of Abortion Bill By One Vote

Good, I guess, but the incoming state legislature will pass it.

So a pregnant pause?

At that point, a career Republican politician will be appointed to oversee the interests of the fetus, because the mother and father cannot be trusted to be objective.

This is what “personhood” means.

Ironic. According to Republicans, government can’t run an Obamacare website, but government sure knows how kids should be treated.

Um…I don’t get it.

Pre-kids. Once you’re born and actually a kid, you’d better be ready to join the rat race, just like a fawn is ready to run almost immediately after birth. If a kid’s a drain on a family’s resources for 15-20 years, that’s the family’s problem, not the government’s.

Only the mistresses of the legislators are allowed to get an abortion!!!

Well, of course. You must have missed the “gobs of money” exception to the ban. If you have enough money to pay for a private clinic, there won’t be any questions asked.

And then the state of Ohio will spend oodles of money defending it in court before it is declared unconstitutional.

Praise be.

Good to know people in Ohio have money.

I was starting to think nobody did ; - )

Kasich is presumably just trying to brush up his “moderate” credentials for his next presidential run. I hope no one falls for it.

I’m a little less cynical: for all his other faults, I think Kasich has little use for idiotic posturing bills that he knows will not withstand judicial scrutiny.

If the Ohio GOP were handing him an anti-abortion bill that had a prayer of actually effectively limiting abortion access, I think he’d probably sign it. An ineffective one doesn’t interest him.

Secretary Nielsen sure does.

God, that’s so repulsive. “What’s inside of women” is a matter of political debate.

Republicans are approaching all this the wrong way.

They should vigorously promote every imaginable legal non procreative sexual practice for folks who do not want children, and make it clear that unprotected coitus is only for those who desire kids at a particular time in their lives.

This new way of thinking would eliminate any need for controversial abortions and deserves a Republican led national media blitz that could last for years of increasingly bold creative approaches to this fertile subject with the goal of changing forever the way Americans think about sex. Sexual Revolution 3.0!

You might want to check in with the parents of Jakelin and Felipe about that. After the funerals are over…

Sorry, There is absolutely no role for government at any level in the realm of private sexual activity and the decision whether or not to procreate and have children. PERIOD!

C’mon, my proposal would be great fun, a spectacle to behold; imagine it!

That they don’t is the very big tell in all their abortion rantings. These laws have nothing to do with children. These bills have only one goal: controlling women’s sexuality. And if it cannot be controlled, then by God, women will be punished.
