Note to GOP and the military-industrial complex: One of the last GOP decents (Eisenhower) is smiling in his grave. (Unnecessary) war is not the answer.
I just listened to our President’s speech!
A nuclear deal reached with Iran! Well done sir!
I’ll paraphrase for the POTUS, jony mc and bibi can suck my dick!
There was an item on Watch Live. I saw it on CNN.
Ok, got my popcorn now where can I go to witness the freakout?!
I know!
And TPM has huckleberry hate speech as the lead?
BFD is right, and beyond huge if it holds up – it’s history in the making.
I say BRAVO to that!
I don’t know, I bet Israel and Bibi share our hopes that this deal works, even though Bibi has to keep up his tough, go-it-alone stance.
He knows he can’t stop Iran’s nuke program.
Let the anti-American warmongering undermining begin.
The GOP would rather have America lose than see Obama win, so they will continue to undermine this deal in every way possible.
People keep saying stuff along the lines of “why should we trust Iran?” Ummm we don’t, that’s the point of making them allow inspectors.
And I feel fine.
Right. The Iranian government wrote a letter to Cotton: “Dear Sir: Some unknown group has stolen your senators’ identities and is writing ignorant shit to us re how your nation’s government works claiming to be them. Perhaps your FBI can get on the case. Sincerely, Hassan Rouhani”
I believe that about most Israelis; I honestly have my doubts about Bibi. I think he has such a Manichean view of things, together with his political and personal need to be the righteous one who recognizes Evil and knows the Truth, that he’s convinced himself war with Iran is inevitable and this is just postponing that inevitability. I expect public lip-service to the hope it’ll work, but after all the shouting about what a disaster the negotiations are, I don’t think he can really acknowledge the possibility that he might be wrong.
I don’t know arrrrj. I think Bibi might have played a role in this – he may even have coordinated with Obama, as ridiculous as that may sound – by continuing to keep the pressure on Iran, he was a useful foil.
And from what Obama and Kerry said in their speeches, Iran seems to have made significant concessions. That’s a heavy lift that accrues to the benefit of Israel, too.
I realize that politically they can’t appear relieved, appreciative or thankful and will need to remain publicly skeptical, but this is a big deal for them, too.
BTW, did you read Josh’s column the other day about Bibi’s coalition-building dilemma? He suggested that Bibi may be in a box because his probable coalition partners lean far right, which might undermine Bibi’s claims of legitimacy wrt to a two-state solution, and that Bibi might be hoping a potential partner insists on accommodating that as a condition of joining his government.
Bibi might be channeling FDR with a “Make me do it.”.
We live in interesting times.
Salon had a quick rundown of RWNJ tweets. They’re not happy. Lots of Neville Chamberlain crap.
Yes it should and I am blown away that it isn’t. This is all they are talking about today everywhere except here. Shame on Josh
Yeah, I’ve also considered the possibility that the whole Bibi speech and the outrage on both sides was all orchestrated to put pressure on Iran, whose obstinacy was the main barrier to an agreement. It’s far from impossible. I guess we will know in 50 years when the documents are declassified (though I doubt I will still be here).
Anyway, the agreement is here and there is really nothing congress can do about it, since Iran doesn’t really care about US sanctions. As long as Europe lifts them, they can sell their oil and buy everything they need there. US-Iran trade never has been significant and never will be, due to simple geography.
That is unbelievable. Apparently they didnt listen to the deal. This is an incredible deal
