Juries come from counties, not just the one town. Pity it’s Collin and not Dallas, but the pool wouldn’t be quite as limited as would appear from just McKinney.
I do, and I’m a socialist-leaning redneck-hating cynic. What the hell makes you think there aren’t nutcases on our tail of the political curve?
Judging from the chief’s statement quoted on Slate, I think he didn’t jump ship, but rather walked the plank. With a push at the end.
Could be wrong, but we’ll see soon.
This.
Yes it was.
And you think this would preclude, rather than trigger, threats of violence against him in response? Interesting theory, that.
Maybe. Or maybe they’ll put something in his record that will flag the incident. Early days yet.
Of all the times, in recent memory, I’ve ever read or heard about this kind of threat, it ALWAYS involved right-wing loons. I’m sure some loonie lefty has gone there, but it certainly wasn’t publicized.
I’m very skeptical that he’s gotten death threats for his behavior here. It’s not like he killed some unarmed teenager.
It’s not like he posted a picture of the POTUS with a noose around his neck.
He quits: No possibility of collecting unemployment. He’s fired: city on the hook for unemployment payments. You want the city to pay just to make a statement?
Even the Chief saw his actions were INDEFENSIBLE but that didn’t stop people from trying.
McKinney Police Chief: “I had 12 officers on the scene and 11 of them acted according to their training”
Fair enough. But does your skepticism justify your mockery without further examination? Would you be embarrassed and humbled if it were to turn out that he had received such threats? Are you ready to back up your statement with an apology if you are proved wrong, or just with gloating if proved right?
These aren’t rhetorical questions. I have seen some incisive remarks from you, as well as some that rival my own autism-spectrum-assisted outbursts, so I do wonder just what made you put it the way you did.
Worth repeating, that.
These are internet comments, which, as you know, are subject to misinterpretation.
I do mock the guy for his buffoonish, yet very dangerous behavior. I’m glad that the situation didn’t escalate and become tragic, because it certainly could have. There have been far too many tragedies involving out-of-control police. It affects one’s perspective. Mocking is less harmful than death threats.
I know one thing. Police behavior, attitudes, and training have to change. They have to get better. Protect and serve.
Ugg fire him just for wearing white socks with black shoes.
I honestly thought that if you were fired for cause you were ineligible for unemployment?
Yes! And your whole post was likeworthy. But I still don’t think mocking his claim of receiving death threats was appropriate. Mocking his behavior and attitude? Absolutely.
GoFundMe has put a stop to such self-serving pleas for money, especially since, if he’s sued by anybody, the city (i.e. the taxpayers) will pay for his defense.
Ahhh, the infamous one man layoff.
Casebolt was a goner without doubt, he is just attempting to preempt the massive smearing of his name and self.
This dude needs flagged to see where he winds up because officer stop, drop and roll is bound to have trouble following him.
What’s the over/under on the amount McKinney will pay out due to this Neanderthal? I’ll start at $1,000,000.00.
