Discussion: Obama's Approval Rating Hits Almost Three-Year High

Amen to that. Best president of my lifetime and I’ve been through a few/ Obama himself is a once in a lifetime. We will not see the likes of him for many moons if ever. I say never

I smiled a lot on that post

Just wait and see when we start campaigning for our nominees. Obama will be our campaigner in chief for our nominees along with out other surrogates.

fat chance the media will cover anything about SCOTUS nominees when Donald Trump’s latest fart - did he or didn’t he and if he did, did it smell like WIN? - is the only thing that brings in ratings, i.e. money

lately, on my best days I feel ashamed of my country.

Obama isn’t polarizing. The funhouse mirror image of him the right continues to see in their fevered dreams is.

Bravo. Excellent post. PBO is one of the very best.

I think it was worse than that - many Dems were “disappointed” that Obama hadn’t done everything they wanted by 2010 and just didn’t bother to show up to vote. It was a census year with many Governors’ mansions up for grabs so the result was another decade of extreme gerrymandering.

Dems need to get it into their heads that they need to come out to vote in EVERY election. Not voting is the equivalent of adding a vote to the R column…

Sadly I agree with you about being ashamed of my country. So much of this campaign on the other side makes me cringes. I have always been a cynic, but now it is a permanent condition.

HE THINKS HE’S THE MESSIAH! LOOK HOW HE’S WEARING A PRIEST’S VESTMENTS!

Just wanted to see how that felt. Sort of cathartic to say dumb shit.

An unintended consequence of the thought of a CrUmp presidency

I smile at that. In 2014 a lot of Dems abandoned an unpopular President, still determined to do the right thing for the country, regardless of what the polls said. Now, people are finally realizing he was on point, and all those Dems are looking for other jobs…

The Reagan example is instructive. Reagan’s chosen successor, George H.W. Bush, won by 7 points against Dukakis simply by getting the knees of his coalition to jerk with a message aimed directly at what made them fear the other side. Willie Horton, the tank ad.

Hillary can do much the same thing, although I suspect her relevant messages would be more like those she has been sending in debates, getting teary-eyed at the plight of that Guatamalan woman, hugging the child to her and telling her not to worry.

The Republicans are the daddy party, the Democrats the mommy party anyway. The Obama experience has shown that mommy can win. Plug those heartstrings. Make people cry instead of make them raise their fists.

Yeah, in this case though there’s a presidential election underway … the winner to get the Supreme Court pick, should the Senate not consider Obama’s.

Hillary, if she’s the nominee, gets to bring it up at every appearance/event/interview along the way:

“Do you want Donald Trump to pick your next Supreme Court justice?”

“Look at this qualified, reasonable nominee we just put forward. Do you want a Senate who refuses to consider him/her?”

There are lots of juicy framing opportunities. I just hope they use them a lot, and wisely.

Its sad how Republicans hate success, and can’t be happy the county is so much better off then it was seven years ago.

@VictorAbrahamsen, Exactly. Under the 3/5 compromise that must be factored into all non white presidents’ approval rating, a 50% approval equals 30%.

I like VictorAbrahamsen’s analogy to Jackie Robinson up thread. Just as Jackie achieved greatness in spite of the haters, so too has Obama. Yet it is mind boggling to me given all that Obama has achieved against all manner of GOP hateful opposition and against a backdrop of GOP debates that have touched on penis size and pants wetting that Obama’s approval is not well north of 70.

Maybe I’m being naive, but I think the coverage of Trump would change if/when he’s nominated.

UNSKEW THE POLLS!
Adjusted for inflation, Obama’s approval rating is closer to 20%.

Debbie Wassmerman Schultz is a corrupt coward. It’s a joke that she’s still DNC chairperson. Can her now!

Don’t look now, but up to 52% in Gallup daily.
