Discussion: Obama: When Congress Fails, I'll 'Scour' Authorities To 'Make Progress'

We got your back Mr. Obama!

Thatā€™s PRESIDENTIAL. The GOP has been hijacked by the Tea Party. And the Teas do not want anything whatsoever President Obama does. But the president has to do to meet the expectation of the people of America.

I prefer to select a leader based on their intelligence and integrity, and then not micromanage them. Clearly they have more information than I do, so Iā€™ll get out of the way and trust your judgement sir.

Donā€™t forget that this manā€™s favorite president was Lincoln.
When he invited Republicans from Congress to a White House screening of the movie ā€œLincoln,ā€ which was about Abeā€™s all-out campaign to get the 13th amendment ratified, most of them declined.
I think they may come to regret that, as I have a feeling a lot is happening below the radar of the media, pollsters etc.

Obamaā€™s biggest problem is that he has been entirely too passive in accepted the laziest Congress in American history.

He should have calling them out in public constantly, as should have been all of his surrogates so that the WH and not Boehner control the message. Instead he whines occasionally
and goes about his day.

Had he been aggressively calling them out he would have widespread support for acting by executive order.

If heā€™s not running for election, he allows the GOP to set the message. Very poor political leadership.

agreeā€¦it is so reflexive to talk about all the things one disagrees with Obama on, but most of the time, when you dig down, where he COULD do something, the disagreement is about degree not about distinction

In the first four years, he was as passionate as he could be. he was trying to set a new tone, and trying to get the GOPhers to work with him like they used to do with past Dem presidents (and Dems with past GOP POTUSes ā€“ as Chris Matthews LOVES to point out while he hawks his latest tome), and he was trying to catch flies with honey, not vinegar. This was before we knew about the meeting on Inauguration Night that should be written up as a treasonous act, or before the Tea Party movement had gathered steam. And if Obama hadnā€™t done it that way, we probably wouldnā€™t have ACA or any of the other advances weā€™d made before the GOTP took over the House and effectively shut down the government.

Thereā€™s also one other factor to his actions in his first four years: Even a hint of upset from Obama at the mounting obstructionism, and both the GOTP and the lionā€™s share of the MSM went into ā€œHeā€™s so ANGRYā€ mode. And without the media calling bullshit on that, Obama was placed in a very small corner. The fact that heā€™s gotten done what he has in these circumstances is the stuff of legends, and I think heā€™s played it right.

Exactly. Limbaugh was barking about a poll that showed how unpopular Obamaā€™s foreign policy is, but he didnā€™t mention that only half of that is because they want Obama to to follow the McCain Doctrine (ā€œBomb Bomb Bombā€¦ā€), and the rest are people who want us completely out of any kind of foreign entanglements weā€™ve got now, and should never fight any more wars ever again because of Bush/Cheneyā€™s actions. If we are going to be a respected leader of nations again, we can be neither the aggressor or the isolationist. Neither stance is tenable.

You gave a reasonable answer in the first part of your reply but that was all lost the moment you told her to ā€œgo play on a swingsetā€.

No need to hurl insults just because another person questioned your motives darcy. It only serves to diminish you.

Derpy, why do you even bother anymore?

Is Redstate not fun enough?

Redstate requires lockstep thinking. It is actually in their terms of use. That is not our policy here at TPM and I would like to think that is not a leftist requirement. All of us have the privilege of posting here if we remain civil.

  1. It is forbidden to promote or give any kind of support for parties other than the Republican Party, or candidates running against Republican primary, caucus, and/or convention nominees. Exceptions to this rule are granted when announced prominently on the front page of the site.
  2. It is forbidden to attempt to discredit or bring disharmony to the site, the Republican Party, any of its candidates, or the conservative movement ā€¦

I could not agree more. If the president were to express anger at the Rs antics as often as it is suggested he do, the Rs would then sink to calling him an angry black man either through dog whistles or directly, and he knows it. Heā€™s better than that and smarter than most of them.

The presidentā€™s next go-it alone move will be around the issue of tax inversions which cost this country trillions in lost tax revenue when American corporations, particularly big pharma, relocate to Europe to dodge paying taxes (Joe Manchinā€™s daughter heads one of these companies planning to leave for the Netherlands). This move must be taken immediately and Congress never shows up for to work, so heā€™s going to manage it.

crippling ignorance happens to be her very best attributeā€¦

It is as if you have not been paying attention he or someone in the admin. has been calling them out constantly.

Thanks for the link.

Obama has scoured Obama and he says to himself, Iā€™m doing this and itā€™s obvious why.

Sooner, I canā€™t find littlegirlā€™s post but I think she accused me of being mean or uncaring to the plight of little boys and girls. So, go playing on the swing set is pretty tame in response and considering all the mean people here who accuse me of trolling, I must say, I feel put upon this morning. I think I need a walk to get my emotions under control.

BTW, all the president has to say is ā€œbring it onā€. You know, w/o the wiggle room.
(can I say that)?

Iā€™m not accusing you of trolling Darcy. Iā€™ve seen two different sides of you and my choice is to encourage your good side to see more of it. It will take some time to undo damage that your other side has done, especially to some of the females here but stay the course man. If an old hard ass like me thinks you can do it then you CAN do it.

When youā€™re posting from your good side youā€™ve written some damn fine comments! And I think weā€™ve seen more of that these past few months.
