Who will suckle Horus?
Joe, I like Rachel and I know you do too…but she is one of the main people whom never missed an opportunity to hammer Bush on the PDB: Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US. So what are we suppose to do now that ISIL is determined? The same thing Bush did???
I remember The Gulf of Tonkin lies, I remember the boys I knew from childhood dying on the other side of the world. I remember that I was 14 when I first heard of Vietnam, and 27 when it was ‘over’. It started with advisers and bombing, too.
So do I and the only people whining are Dick Cheney and the Neocons. They want an all out war. I like Obama’s fighting style, from a position of strength, instead of emotions.
Come out and play?
Good one!
It’s war again, folks. Yay. The repercussions of George W. Bush keep piling up. I just wonder how many more mistakes of his have to fall into President Obama’s lap to take care of. Aside from the recession this is probably the biggest one and could be the biggest one if we allow the same failed tactics cause us to spend multiple years clearing out these roaches. However, if history is any guide we’ll still be doing this in a few years. It’s terrible when doing nothing about it is as bad a decision as acting on it.
Agree. I saw some of the pre- and post-speech coverage and had to walk away from the bloviators.
The President and Secretary of State have already assembled a coalition, and a strategy is already being rolled out. All this while the media is still sputtering weeks-old talking ponts and Congress is not even resolved whether to even bring the topic up for discussion, let alone issue an authorization.
And given the community-organizer-in-chief’s negotiating skills – anyone remember how much he got in December 2010 in return for a two-year extension of the Bush tax cuts – I feel that this action might be the beginning of a process that results in the easing of some protracted regional hostilities and rivalries, and promotes the possibility of a new-to-the-region atmosphere of regional cooperation.
Oh, for the love pf God, can we lose the hyperbole?
ISIL is a wild card. We have a role to play and we have to do it. Here’s the ground rules:
- We don’t arm anyone in the region.
- We don’t announce a doctrine or delineate a ‘red line’ that shall not be crossed,
- We don’t commit to troops on the ground anywhere,
- We don’t lose sight of the fact that ISIL is not a direct threat to the U.S.
- We do address the refugee crisis.
- We do engage with Iran on common ground
- We do intervene with air power for humanitarian reasons.
- We do leave ourselves with the most options possible and remain on the sidelines as much as we can.
Well it Isis could put Osiris back together, then maybe it’s Osiris’ turn to find most of the pieces.
Sucked into another war–this time w/o any debate whatsoever. We already have boots on the ground in Iraq…and in Somalia…and… The American people are such chumps.
When the President says we, he means more than just us Americans, he has secured an alliance, a real one.
I don’t believe that he wants to do this at all but he has a job to do and doesn’t have that luxury, and we are still in the clean up the neocons mess mode. Just think, the bastard Republicans created this mess on purpose. May they all rot forever.
ISIL wanted some, they are going to get some and if we are lucky, the ME may be a better place when it’s all over.
I wonder if the poster is acquainted with the facts surrounding our involvement in Vietnam? Clearly overlooking the “boots on the ground” from the French and British prior to our intervention.
We don’t have to do this. Only Iraqi oil is threatened. NO ONE makes us do these things.
Boooooo to you.
Thank you for your thoughtful response.
It was because of yours, blame yourself.
John McCain was especially despicable tonight. “The President just doesn’t understand the world” nonsense - which is obviously a condescending statement that shows he hasn’t made peace with losing the presidency to a younger black man.
Wow. Obama is the fourth consecutive American president to deliver a prime time speech to the nation about Iraq on Wednesday. Is that all the speeches on different Wednesdays, or all the speeches on this particular Wednesday?
P.S. This is the most stupid dysfunctional comment system on the entire internet.
“What do you mean?” he said. “Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?”
“All of them at once,” said the media.
