Discussion for article #227539
There must have been a mad rush on the toilets at MSNBC…it seem no one heard what the President actually said.
Par for the course for our sensationalist media. They had their responses prepared before the speech.
Agree.
I am shocked SHOCKED that the lamestream media failed to mention the tan suit, the difficulty of getting a tee time in New York and BENGHAAAAAAZZZIIIIIIII//22@a!1a!!wA#11!1Q!!!1Q!.
How could they fail to mention these after taking so much time to prepare their canned statements about Obommies speech? And why such disconnect between their responses and his talk?
Chris Matthews before the address – doesn’t want the President playing on the peoples fear to hype our need for action, after the address – Where was the War selling?
How many times have I heard this speech - the ruling class wants a war - they ruling class gets a war. They send the peasants to fight it. This is exactly how Vietnam started - advisers, more advisers, a few troops - and then 58,000 dead Americans, and a rift in our politics not resolved to this day. I call bullshit.
“That is the difference we make in the world,”
The President stiff arms the war mongers, the domestic terrorists in Congress called the GOP and the foreign terrorists called ISIS and their hype.
I thought it was a good speech. The fact that so many political pundits are trashing it confirms my opinion. In fact, given their response, I wouldn’t be surprised if ISIL were wiped out inside of six weeks. Typically, the less the press believes in Obama, the better he performs. Most of our political pundits couldn’t outperform a stopped clock for accuracy.
Rachel Maddow seems to be flipping through a stack of index cards full of her favorite arguments from 2007.
She just recited “Our military is overstretched.” Well, no, not really at this point, and a mission that might or might not include reach a couple thousand American personnel is a rounding error in terms of rotations.
The host of New England Cable News introduced the tan suit “story” like this:
“And now, more evidence that we are a nation divided by color.”
Ha ha ha ha!
As a combat vet and retired Army Officer I take umbrage with your post. While many chicken hawks avoided serving there were plenty of us, both draftees and volunteers, who were not peasants.
I doubt that the lie that was the Gulf of Tonkin resolution will be repeated if a Democrat is POTUS but should a GOTPer be elected in 2016 all bets are off.
Aside from that if we are to engage with boots on the ground we should bring back the draft rather than call up the National Guard.
I hope and pray that there will be no more American boots on the ground in the festering cesspool that is the middle east.
You and I both know that black is the ticket after Labor Day even if in an extended Indian Summer.
Unless, of course, we be talking 'bout the Presidental skin color.
If we destroy ISIS, what will Osiris do?
(Look it up, people.)
You know what strikes me? How honest this President is when he wants military action.
Think of the cases that were made for previous wars. Babies in incubators! WMD, 45 minutes, Mohammed Atta met with Iraqi intelligence! They attacked our ships in the Gulf of Tonkin!
Lies. All lies.
Now look at this President’s proposed military actions: the Assad regime really did launch a sarin gas attack. The Gadhaffi military really was about to massacre the opposition. ISIL actually is rampaging through Iraq and Syria, massacring minorities.
There’s no bogus intelligence or carefully-coached shill testifying to Congress.
I like it.
John McCain appearing on MSNBC: fundamentally wrong on the issues and still hating on Obama. If Congress wants to vote then they should vote instead of cowering to Obama. The GOP wants all out war and the President is teaching the Class. First subject, lessons learned from 13 years of war and being fooled into war.
What the hell were you listening to?
Stand down and absorb what was said.
This has no parallel whatsoever to Vietnam as a foreign or domestic situation.
The media’s mad the President seems intent on robbing them of November sweeps war ratings sizzle and militarized animated bumpers. But, as recent weeks have shown, the old media Villagers still believe their evidence-erasing faux impartiality blinds Americans to their low calorie political jabber and near weekly face plants. The President should worry about ISIL capturing a large US media face and enjoying a post beheading approval bump.
I agree completely. Chris Matthews was up first with the most asinine comments I have ever heard from him, and that is saying something.
And not one of them, so far, has mentioned that the coalition already includes Britain, France, Denmark, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Even Iran is apparently willing to pitch in.
This is a MAJOR triumph of Obama’s policy, but no one at MSNBC understood one word.
I didn’t mean ‘peasants’ as an insult. I meant those of us who have no control over the decision to go fight wars we don’t need to fight.
And the children of the ruling class can always weasel out even with a draft - see Cheney, Dick, Bush, George W. Kristol, William, ad nauseum
