Cool!
Iāll never forget probably 8 years ago being on a business trip in Italy talking to a co-worker from england and him talking about going to Cuba for vacation. I was stunned because I never realized most other ally countries had no restrictions on going to Cuba. Just made me realize even more that our country and particularly its leaders are so fucking dumb about some stuff.
Obamaās long game is why heāll be well rated by historians ā Cuba, Iran, Obamacare, etc. They will not spend any time on Fast and Furious, Benghazi, and all the other āscandalsā that have Republicans in a state of hysteria.
Fox: Kenyan in Cuba does have a ring to it.
A great move on so, so many levels!
-sticks it to Republicans in general but little Rubio in particular.
-timing is great with Scaliaās death. Sure, this was planned long before he went directly to Hell but it takes the heat off Obamaās no show at his funeral. Further, it points out most sharply that the President has important tasks ahead even here in his last year.
-the trip alone burnishes his legacy with a number of historic firsts. These will be long remembered (Nixon = China?) in the history books, further maddening Republicans at all levels!
Weāve said it before: Obama is playing three-dimensional chess to the Pubbies checkers. He-Always-WIns!
Eat it with with whine and cheese, Pubbies!
Yes, my thoughts exactly! When history is written on Obamaās legacy some years from now, the big issues, hopefully including a seismic shift in the Supreme Courtās makeup, will tower over the insignificant and untruthful Republican lead witch hunts during his administration. The more intelligent (yet still repugnant) Republicans know this and can trace their obstruction from Day 1 of his first inauguration to denying this 1/2 black man his rightful place in history. They-will-not-succeed!
That sound you hear? Just head exploding once again on the right
Same. My colleague had great things to say about the place. Lots of tourism but no Americans. Iāve considered going there and if I did as much business as he did in the Caymens Iād probably be a fan too.
What always bothered me about these Cuban immigrants is that in their zeal to demonize the government of their homeland, they are indirectly punishing their own by insisting on no diplomatic relations. Cuban dĆ©tente benefits the Cuban people by having access to American goods, albeit limited, and it makes it far easier to stay in touch with their relatives in state. Youād think 2nd gen Cubans would start to get that after 50 years, it shouldnāt be about punishing the Cuban government anymore when there are the rest of the Cubans that should be thought of too.
Apparently Cruz and Rubio are from that virulent anti-Castro school of thinking that doesnāt make sense to me. Itās almost like all Cuban immigrants with this mentality were recruited into the CIA for anti-Fidel subversion and all emerged with these hardened neocon positions.
The ones that come here are probably the rich or kids of the rich that lost their power in influence.
Really? You think itās that simple?
I mean, Iām sure some were. But itās like every Cuban Iāve ever encountered either comes from that cold war school of thought, or the 2nd genāers Iāve known, their parents are Fox News lovers so I assume theyāre from that slant.
I admit it could be my confirmation bias since I donāt know a lot of Cubans since Iām situated on the wrong coast and non cold war Cubans arenāt going to be popping out of the woodwork at me as someone Iād take notice of. But Iāve spent plenty of time in Miami.
I have no idea what you mean by cold war school of thought so I googled and found the quote below
The study of the Cold War has produced a voluminous amount of interpretation. In this lesson, you will learn about the various schools of thought, including realism, traditionalism, revisionism and post-revisionism.
ā¦I feel like you got some āsplainā to do Lucy!
Eh? Wasnāt referring to any specific school, just the cold war mentality adopted by the Cuban neocons on their foreign policy position toward their homeland. I assume youāre too young to remember the cold war else my reference would have been obvious, but it involves demonizing the country in question, painting them as the āotherā, isolating them, cutting diplomatic ties, etc.
Of course that should have been one of the lessons of the cold war. We ended up isolating ourselves from the USSR so much that our intel services completely got it wrong and had no idea their economy was in shambles.
