Interesting that this is getting so little blowback.

Is it too soon, or is it more acceptable to the right than I would have expected, or is it the timing (overshadowed By Mr. Trump’s antics), or what?

It’s because most people believe life sentences for non-violent drug offenders is neither sensible or sane policy.

Sensible and sane, let alone popular, have hardly been hallmarks of right wing rhetoric up till now (witness gun control, abortion, etc.), so what is different about this?

I hope he pardons Mumia Abu Jamal, but with the cop shootings this is very unlikely to happen, unless he does it just before he leaves Office.

For whatever reason, there is no appetite for these type of sentences even among many of the right anymore, probably because so many whites are now being impacted with the rise in heroin and opiod use. That’s why they go along with prison/sentencing reform.
