Discussion: Obama On London Mayor’s ‘Part-Kenyan’ Remark: I Wanted An MLK Jr. Bust In WH

A picture of Bullingdon Club members with both Boris Johnson and David Cameron. Boris sort of stands out; Cameron is in the rear, second from left.

Yep. George Osborne is a member as well. They’re all a bunch of cunts.

I would hope that TPM also runs a story on the ostensible point of President Obama’s trip to the UK: to speak out on Brexit, the upcoming referendum on whether to quit the European Union.

At the press conference, Obama made some good remarks on how events such as the global recession, Europe’s economic slump, and the ongoing migration of refugees from the Middle East have understandably caused some in Europe to look inward and reject broad alliances in favor of narrowly perceived parochial interests.

He also spoke of the benefits to the UK, and to the US, of alliances such as NATO, the G-7, the G-20, the World Bank, the IMF, and the current US-Europe economic sanctions on Russia over their incursions into Ukraine.

He also spoke of the potential of ongoing talks toward a US-Europe trade deal, and said that such efforts make more sense when they involve multiple countries and markets.

This issue matters to me more than a silly “half-Kenyan” comment.

Looks like a terrible Mersey Beat band from 1966.

Never underestimate the ability of right-wingers the world around to find grievance over bullshit matters, and to totally make up the bullshit while they’re at it.

As always Obama responds with grace and dignity to crude and rude screeds.

I am with Randy – a discussion of Obama’s comments about Brexit is something I would like to see here. The news reports I have seen are so polarized it’s hard to know what was really going on. That said, Obama did say "Maybe some point down the line, there might be a U.S.-U.K. trade agreement, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon,” Obama said at a news conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron. He added: “Our priority is with the EU” and “the U.K. is going to be at the back of the queue.”

Now, he was speaking with Cameron, who is not in favor of Brexit, and was probably trying to give him support – but I don’t think that it’s going to play that way. The London mayor’s insult of Obama was clearly the result of these comments, and while the insult was hostile, I do think that many Brits see Obama’s comments as hostile as well.

I saw somewhere that President Obama’s favorability in the UK is between 80 and 90 percent, so I doubt if he was severely dinged by this comment.

I think it’s sweet that they all got matching haircuts to go with their matching privilege.

Johnson is pretty much England’s Trump and, surprisingly, apparently not even Cameron likes him and he’s a shit too.

The Rethugs are bad right now, but the Tories and UKIPers are worse. The Rethugs have wanted to do away with SS and Medicare for years. Well, the Tories are doing a fine job of destroying NH and finding all sorts of ways to make life more challenging for anyone not, at a minimum, an upper-middle twit.

Is that Osborne standing to the right of Boris?

I thought Nigel Farage had that spot?

I don’t believe Osborne is in that picture. He’s in this one though:

The Mayor of London has a lot in common with a certain former mayor of Wasilla. You betcha.

Maybe viscerally, but Boris is anything but dumb. He’s smart enough to be very dangerous.

His pants don’t match any of the others in the group. Looks like he either threw up on or peed in his pants and had to borrow another pair from a janitor for the pix.

Isn’t Bernie Sanders the angry white guy version of Bernie Sanders?
