Discussion for article #245947
President Obama has done a great job, especially when viewed in the context of unified and inalterable Republican opposition. Hillary Clinton is the only person running who can preserve and build on his legacy.
“…These things change over time.”
Well, you can now add incrementalist, to radical, fascist, socialist, Muslim, weak, and dictator in the ever-growing epithet spew.
The problem is as Dems believe government can in some cases be part of a solution and Reps argue that all government is bad, when government does not work it hurts Dems and helps Reps regardless of WHY the government does not work or WHO is really keeping things from getting done.

President Obama is one class act. I for one will miss his leadership, regardless of which democratic candidate replaces him.
Which answer is to say “I’m still POTUS right now, so here’s your predictably measured response. Ask me again in a year after HRC is sworn in, morons.”
Racism has been a huge part of it. But you just watch and see what sort of reception another President Clinton gets. She’ll be just as vilified and in similarly scurrilous ways. Hilarious dominatrix images, vampire hag images, the whole deal. She inspires as much mindless vituperation as he does. It really doesn’t take much to set the wingers off.
You tried it your way and it still fell short the GOP was determined not to give and inch.
"Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust and hostility to evaporate.

Shorter Obama: Ask me that question at about one o’clock on January 20th.
what’s more the case, I think, is just the straight hardball politics of running against an incumbent and beating the heck out of him and softening him up," Obama said. “Because if a whole bunch of stuff gets done, he’s going to get the credit.”
Bingo! Race plays a part for sure, but just wait until Hillary or Bernie is sworn in. Either of them will face the same, if not worse obstructionism. Because the GOP is anti-progress.
As always president Obama is gracious, rational, logical and floats far above the the GOP “leaders” and their dung flies.
I have no idea whether Obama really believes this, but even if he really did think racism played a significant role, it would be of little practical benefit to him to make it a point of emphasis right now.
Republicans haven’t accepted any Democratic President as legitimate since Johnson (if even then), but there’s only one reason why they’ve had so much fun emailing each other photoshops of Obama with a bone in his nose.
I’d like to ask Michelle that question. I bet sparks would fly if she felt she could speak candidly.
“The attitudes you talk about Denny, they’re there, but they’re there a lot less with young people,” unless you are a civil rights hero and you say something even mildly critical of their candidate and then, watch out – racism will appear so fast it will make your head spin.
I’d ask him on November 9th, and beat you to the scoop…
“You got a whole generation of kids growing up where the first president they’ve known is an African American,” he continued. “Even if they’re hearing their parents say; ‘He’s terrible,’ it kind of seeps in that it’s not a crazy thing. So that sometime later, if there’s a Hispanic, or a woman or another African American, that won’t seem as exceptional. These things change over time.”
That strikes me as a very important point.
I know, I’m so going to miss having him as President.
Or with Sanders would be comparisons to Stalin, Lenin, Marx, Mao.
Here’s the thing - anyone who does not believe that we are lightyears ahead of where we were when this man took office needs their head examined. He has halved unemployment, the economy is in decent shape, especially compared to every where else on the planet. We have finally gotten the country moving to the left and now that we have all worked our asses off, including Obama who has worked so hard and against such frustrating obstacles, NOW the left threatens to throw it all in the trash for someone who just promises the sun moon and stars and has no way to deliver on any of it.
And he will trash all of Obama’s hard work and shred his legacy and believes he is better at race relations and he’s an old white man - I have yet to see an old white man who knows more about race relations OR women’s rights than the actual people who are being discriminated against.
“Although there’s no doubt that there are pockets of the country where some dog whistles blow and there’s underlying racial fears that may be exploited, overall, what’s more the case, I think, is just the straight hardball politics of running against an incumbent and beating the heck out of him and softening him up,” Obama said. “Because if a whole bunch of stuff gets done, he’s going to get the credit.”
Even to this day, President Obama is the better man than anyone the GOP throws at us. I know it’s more than just hardball politics – so do Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and all the clown car occupants.
