Discussion for article #237652
This reminds me of Ezra Kleinâs âGreen Lantern Theory of the Presidency.â A President is not going to wave a magic wand and solves these problems. Especially with a polarized Congress and country. The left needs to organize as enthusiastically and effectively as the right did in the 50s and 60s (See Rick Perlsteinâs âBefore the Stormâ and âNixonland.â)
Change comes from the ground up, not top down. Electing Obama was a beginning, not an end. There is much left to do. Complaining about Obama is a waste of time and energy.
Whats also sad to me is that, as a Nation, we think its normal for politicians to have to be bankrolled by retired hedge fund billionaires. Thats fucked up.
âHe spoke of a Colorado man who wrote him a letter decrying all that had not been accomplished during his presidency. Obama said the man wrote that he voted for him twice but was âdeeply disappointed.ââ
âAnd on that issue, I had to tell him, 'Youâre right. I am frustrated and you have every right to be frustrated because Congress doesnât work the way it should.â
What a disingenuous fraud. You want to take some of the sting out of race relations Mr. President, then fix the GD economy so the middle-class believes thereâs hope and opportunity in the future - for all of us. Race and Inequality are inseparable. Fuck the 1% and the Corporate Establishment Mr. President. Show that you actually give a shit.
Speaking of not helping, that is a useless attitude if there ever was one.
Try shouting at the rain, at least you get a quick bath.
Presidents are not Kings. The ACA and the 09 Stimulus are significant pieces of legislation that benefit the middle class and poor.
What donât you get? Inequality always breeds resentment and sometimes hatred, and the opportunity to blame those less fortunate than you. Itâs standard behavior.
Tell me, whatâs âfreedomâ without financial stability?
I guess this is your way of shouting at the rain? This makes no sense at all to me. But, even though I typically avoid engaging you, this off the wall response is not the first.
" this off the wall response is not the first."
We just see things differently. Nothing âoff the wallâ about my post. The presidentâs right about dialogue. Itâs a waste of time. Opportunity and a healthy economy for the rest of us, and not just the presidentâs banking and corporate bosses, and he will make more of a difference than 100 years of dialogues and town hall meetings.
Trying to sell that this is all that President Obama is about or cares about and that he is a disingenuous fraud that causes economic strife all by his lonesome is not a reflection on him or a difference of opinion, itâs just you slinging wacky theories.
Quit digging while the hole is only this deep, and show that you arenât the lunatic that you come off as.
Nice edit, changing your context is pathetic and if you were half a man youâd admit it.
âwacky theoriesâ. LOL!
This president has presided over, since 2010, the largest transfer of wealth in American history from the middle-class to the wealthy. Itâs a straight ahead-fact. No, he didnât do it all by himself but he bears much of the responsibility.
So true, and my local Democrats and liberals donât seem to understand that. The local Republicans (half of the party â the other half hates them for taxing, spending and funneling most of the money to their corrupt buddies) spent years building their base and planning. The Democrats try to get candidates in at the last minute and, after they lose, donât start immediately planning for the next election or to get their people in on appointed park boards and such.
There is no âWIN.â Itâs a constant struggle against relentless opponents with lots of resources.
But as the Doors so aptly put it, âTheyâve got the guns/But weâve got the numbers.â
