“Shaken,” “unsteady,” “overwhelmed,” “frantic” and “upset” were among the adjectives Rosenstein acquaintances offered to the newspaper to describe his mood in the days after Comey’s abrupt dismissal."
“Shaken,” “unsteady,” “overwhelmed,” “frantic” and “upset”
Rod sure as hell didn’t look like that yesterday so he got past it, bucked up, and he keeps on keeping on, as should we.
"The Times also reported that Rosenstein did not consult with Sessions before deciding to appoint Mueller, a move that blindsided the attorney general and infuriated the President. "
Consult with the guy who had to recuse himself? WTF am I even reading? What kind of retarded pap is this? The Times is at it again with its obsequious catering to those in power.
“Shaken,” “unsteady,” “overwhelmed,” “frantic” and “upset”
I’d be all that too. Trump violated all professional and ethical norms. Trump might as well have grabbed Rosenstein by the pussy. Being mistreated like that might have been a first for him, but he seems to have adapted pretty well to the situation since then - judging by the way he handled those clowns in congress yesterday.
When I first read Rosenstein’s memo, almost immediately when it was first made public, my initial reaction, not just here but on other blogs, was, It’s CORRECT - in every singe respect.
But at same the time, I speculated (it’s not whole speculation) that Rosenstein may well have been used in a way he failed to fully appreciate at the time.
Subsequent events have driven me to the surmise that as soon as Rosenstein fully realized how his naive production of a CORRECTLY WRITTEN memo was being abused, he basically decided on the course of conduct that led to his decision tree of
- OSC
- Mueller, and
- not advising any political types in advance
ALL THREE can readily be justified by the same rigor in interpreting DoJ policy as Rosenstein showed in his memo on Comey’s conduct.
Rosenstein must be somewhat adept at bureaucratic politics, because no one gets to be a high level DoJo careerist desk jockey without some competency at office pugilism. But whatever he has in that vein, he isn’t remotely a retail politician, and his shortcomings in identifying what hardcore retail pols are capable of was what led to him being so thoroughly used.
Rosenstein is a much better lawyer than Comey ever was (He was senior to Obama at Harvard Law Review.(.
IMO he’s also better civil servant. I’m more into the idea of a bureaucracy where everyone starts out by the book and defers to the book - that is, to the laws and written policy - tho will occasionally be moved to humanity, than with over relying on some egotist’s personal central conceit of Christian goody ness.
Comey rose fast in the DoJ off APPEARANCES, height and good manners, creating an IMPRESSION of leadership that he was able to manage and massage thru most of his LEO career.
Rosenstein’s never did that. He’s no good at projecting either warm or fuzzy. He doesn’t work off some self-conceit as a knight in gleaming armor on a white horse like Comey long pulled off.
And he’s not into faking leadership thru b.s. inspiration.
He’s not even all that likable. I mean, I like him, mostly … sometimes. I certainly much prefer him in contrast, as I never trusted Comey to have any more than a veneer of the character he tried so hard and obviously to project.
If Rosenstein’s flustered or upset or angry, A you can tell, and B you count on it being true.
I don’t think they are misinformed. They know exactly what they are doing. The Dem that spoke gave away their game. It is all a show of smoke and mirrors so they can protect Trump.
Unless Rosenstein was under a rock or in outer space, I’m going to ignore 2016, because it’s already clear that Rosenstein, Boente and others knew about the tweeting.
Here’s my Rosenstein problem, when he interviewed for the number 2 job, did someone take him to the side and tell him about the upcoming storm cloud.
Now Rosenstein was aware of Sessions recusal (March,2017), so it’s hard for me to be sympathetic to a guy who should have wondered like crazy, when his boss applauded him for that Comey letter.

You’re just figuring this out now?
[/quote]Um, no. The anger over being used was immediately after the Comey firing.
I think you’f have to admit that most of the GOP were fine wearing beige/tan shirts, it took a real Nazi to show them brown is good.
What did you think Rosenstein? You did him a good deed and he would look out for you? Sucker.
The Times also reported that Rosenstein did not consult with Sessions before deciding to appoint Mueller
What part of “Sessions recused himself” do you not understand?
If he’d discussed Mueller with the Keebler Elf, the elf would have told the orange stain and we would not have a special counsel right now (unless donnie, upon hearing the news, tried to stop the appointment of a special “council”, in which case the special counsel might have slipped by him).
All’s I have to say is, when does the book go on pre-order?
‘Upset’ Rosenstein Believed WH Used Him To Justify Comey Firing
Duh. Ya think?
Personally, it seems like Comey got an easy out in some ways, and this was how they did it without too much damage all 'round.
After Comey refused to pledge fealty to Trump, this was inevitable in one form or another. While it may have served to teach Trump to be more cautious dealing with future FBI directors, he clearly stumbled through this in the wild weeks following his dubious election.
Can any of you imagine the chaos and anxiety among the better angels of our FBI that accompanied the surprise Trump “victory?”
This almost seems like it was the best way for Comey to go, has anyone pondered whether Comey coached Rosenstein in the first place, how do we know Comey didn’t participate in concocting this “out?”
The alternatives might have been much worse.
I’m just sayin’…
That’s kinda where I am. Rosenstein was angry at being used, and for Trump basically throwing him under the bus. But that doesn’t mean that Rosenstein didn’t see it coming or know his loyalty was to the Constitution, not to Trump.
If I remember correctly, the Rosenstein memo being Trump’s excuse was a surprise. But Comey getting fired wasn’t.
Don’t know how much to count on Rosenstein, given some of his actions and words (see below). Is he sucking up to Trump in order to stay in the game, and see the investigation to its conclusion… or is there another agenda?
Rosenstein praises ‘Lincolnesque’ Trump
Wednesday, May 9, 2018
Embattled Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told a Washington audience Sunday that President Donald Trump’s words after last year’s deadly white supremacist march in Charlottesville represented a message of unity that needed to be heard during a divisive period in American history.
Following the murder of a counterprotester by a white nationalist, Trump said, “You had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. … You also had some very fine people on both sides.”
“President Trump recognized last August that no matter the color of our skin, we all live under the same laws, we all salute the same great flag and we are all made by the same almighty God,” Rosenstein said at the Anti-Defamation League’s annual leadership summit…
Rosenstein said Trump’s call for more tolerance after the Charlottesville rally resembled President Abraham Lincoln’s 1861 inaugural address. In that speech, the 16th president urged unity despite bitter divisions between the North and the South over slavery.
“Lincoln insisted his opponents were not enemies, because we were all Americans,” Rosenstein said. “He concluded his inaugural address by appealing to the better angels of our nature. President Trump echoed that statement with his remarks last summer of ‘we must rediscover the bonds of love and loyalty that bring us together as Americans.’”…
“When victims are attacked because of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation, there are laws that empower [the Justice Department] to respond,” he said. “Enforcing those laws is important to President Trump and Attorney General Sessions.”…
Ya think?
Every savvy chessplayer has learned that is the only door to Trump that is available to men.
Women gain access through his zipper.
He was used, clearly, BUT everything he says in his memo about Comey is true. Comey probably deserved to be fired or at least reprimanded. And he more than made up for it by swiftly appointing Mueller.
Think about it–who would you rather have doing the Russia Investigation, Comey? Or Mueller?
