Discussion: NYT Public Editor Margaret Sullivan Headed To The Washington Post

Discussion for article #246312

“Margaret can be tough”. Yeah, right. She’s about as tough as a pound of ground round that’s been marinating in sulfuric acid for 6 months.
Golly Gee Willakers, now she gets to scream “BOTH SIDES DO IT!” while working at the Post, too. Nothing like a public editor who rolls over to the whims of her bosses.

It’s inappropriate for the NYT to appoint a new Public Editor until after the election.

Yeah. This. Another pseudo-independent voice brought to you by Fred Albritton Media Ryan appearing on the Bezos Blog.

Also: I’m not sure why I should care? I happily followed Neil Irwin to the NYT and dumped the WaPo (after 30+ years) when Bezos brought in Ryan. Why do we need two versions of Politico to feed us the inside-the-beltway GOP sping? It’s like Deborah Howell all over again.

It’s going to be hard for the Times to find anyone as pliant as Sullivan. Oh, wait! We’re talking about journalists. Never mind.

Bada-boom! Bada-bing! And you, sir, have just won the Internet for the day! (Along with the person who made this hilarious Trump video):

Perhaps she got tired of spinning all the NYT’s crap on Clinton.

Seriously, how many people get a shot at screwing up 2 major cities? (Disregarding the possibility that Trump may get elected.)

Oh, come on, be serious here. Sullivan was the first Readers’ Editor at the NYT to take on the senior editorial management with any kind of heft and authority. She’ll be hard to replace.

OMG. That is AWESOME.

She certainly was much better than the previous inhabitants of that position, yes.

That, though, is a very low bar.

Why does this strike me the same way that reading the news the Carly Fiorina was leaving Lucent to go join HP…?

Sullivan is the best public editor in the history of the position. She has made herself very, very unpopular by calling them out on multiple occasions where they transcribed leaks from unidentified Republlican sources and then again when they posted corrections that missed the fundamental nature of their errors.
