Discussion: NYT Editorial Board Actually Sides With Trump: He's 'Right' About Ginsburg

If anyone thinks this country is going through a “normal” election cycle, I have a bridge to sell them.

All bets seem to be off…

Did the Times agree that Justice Ginsburg’s “mind is shot”? Or are hits below the belt just fine if they’re from Mr Trump?

RBG needs to put a sock in it. I love her, but, not the place of the SCOTUS.

I think they are correct in saying that Ms. Ginsburg should not be commenting on the election. She should have limited her comments to the criticism of federal judge in the University case.

That’s pretty narrow-focused. I can’t imagine the NYT covering its ass to play both sides of the fence. It’d be a first for the Old Grey Lady.

The sound of all these fucking pearls being clutched is… soothing.

I have such a love-hate relationship with the NYT, and this is one of those hate moments. We’ve got sitting court members who belong to radical rightwing organizations, court members who snubbed a sitting president, court members who feel it’s ok not to recuse themselves when they have spouses working in the area of a case, etc. Which is more of a problem? A member voicing distaste for a potential office holder (who happens to be a racist / fascist), or a systemic politicization of the court by conservatives?

This is a different ball game folks…Trump is very very dangerous for this country…old rules don’t apply…Trump must be stopped…people need to rewatch Ken Burns Stanford Commencement Address…

Signaling her retirement as soon as HRC is elected. She’ll never hear another case.

It’s inappropriate that Trump is running for President. There are no legal reasons that would prevent him from running, but it calls the electorate’s capacity for adult thought into question.

Speaking of rules… how about the equal time requirement for media coverage?
That used to be the law. Today, Trump gets the vast majority of all coverage—even to the extent that news of the actual President is interrupted to show Trump.
We don’t have any rules about elections, which is why there is nothing wrong with RBG putting down the Notorious Tiny Fingered Vulgarian.

Seems to me when the nation is facing extraordinary danger, extraordinary measures are called for.

Reagan nixed that one. He was so cool. And his doe-eyed wife, too.

“Her mind is shot.”

Ah, yes. More incisive analysis, by our orange shitgibbon polymath. (Hah! I finally got to use that - shamelessly purloined from another commenter,)

Why doesn’t the NYT scream about Ginni Thomas’s RW lobbying?
Where was the editorial outrage when Fat Tony went hunting with Darth Cheney and then heard cases involving Cheney?
Why is it OK for politicians to criticize the Supreme Court, but not for the Supreme Court to criticize politicians?
Any news organization who doesn’t think the Court has been politicized for fucking decades deserves to give back any Pulitzers or other awards it has garnered over the years because they are clueless. Apparently, they’ve forgotten about that little political coronation of GWB in 2000. And the many times when conservative members of the Court refused to attend Obama’s SOTU addresses. That wasn’t political, NYT?
I actually wish the idiot Teabagger Republicans in Congress would move for an impeachment of Ginsburg. I really, really would, since it would be almost as much fun as an impeachment of Obama, because it would only make them more popular. Go ahead, Teafucks - start an impeachment proceeding against a SC justice who is considered a rock star. Please proceed, motherfuckers.
Oh, and Donald - if Ginsburg is supposed to step down for her remarks, why in the fuck aren’t you stepping down due to YOUR remarks about Judge Curiel - a judge presiding over one of YOUR cases? Trump criticized a sitting judge; Ginsburg did not criticize a sitting president, unlike the conservatives on the court.

NYT??

Who cares!

While they still employ modo, they are nothing more than birdcage linings to me.
