Discussion: NYPD Officer Critical But Stable After Hatchet Attack

Discussion for article #229275

This is obviously just another case of bad policing. These cops set out that day to shoot someone. This guy was minding his own business when the police put a hatchet into his hands, pretended to get hit by it, then used that as an excuse to gun him down. The injured officer is probably faking it. Yeah, that’s it.

Or maybe this guy really did go after the cops with a hatchet. But instead of just shooting his hands, the vicious, murderous pigs killed him needlessly.

Just trying to get into the TPM poster spirit.

Yup, there was a police shooting of a guy running around like a crazy man on a crowded NYC street waving a machete and screaming and yelling…and the reaction from many on here was that the shooting was not warranted. Of course if he had sliced someone, that would have been the cops fault for not subduing him…(yawn)

Updates on this appear that this may be classified as a terror attack of some kind. It seems he was one of these “I hate the gubbermint” or “we live in a police state” nuts. We’ll have to see who he was communicating with, etc. My guess is that he is a big Alex Jones (or some such conspiracy salesman) fan.

Further updates indicate he is one of the Muslim radical converts. Equally dangerous.

Oh, and BTW, the videotape is clearly a fake, and the “eyewitnesses” are all just in on the conspiracy. Another massive coverup to justify murder-by-cop.

Sarcasm duly noted. This guy was armed and attacking. Not one post on this story has yet questioned the shooting, but perhaps someone will because of comments made on stories with somewhat more different circumstances. Best get that preemptive strike in now.

police just got back what they dish out. I use to have sympathy for police in matters like this, however after militarization and unjustified killings of civilians - what’s that phrase ice-t use to say…

Ummm, see post below. Yes, there are nuts on the left wing too. Not as many as the right for sure, but they do exist.

You really are a complete moron.

I stand corrected by the exception to the rule, from a poster who seems to take pride in being inflammatory. I’m not sure he’s on the left, wherever that is, but I heartily disagree with his logic and apparent world view. Reality is always more complicated than to be a basis for implying that these cops had it coming, but you were spot on that someone would go down that path.

NIce pet you have there.

I’m guessing this just went completely over your head.

Clearly you haven’t read through all of the Ferguson-related posts. I’m surprised some of those folks can stand up, what with their knees jerking so furiously.

Each case needs to be examined on its own merits. Some folks here seem to have trouble remembering that, and occasionally need to be given a poke or two.

Oh, no, I got the poorly executed sarcasm. I’ve noticed that the collective intelligence on TPM has decidedly declined since you came aboard. Did you wander over here from infowars or something?

Bring a Hatchet to a gun fight and you lose.

“Asked if the attack could be related to terrorism, Police Commissioner William Bratton didn’t rule it out”

Your officers ruled it out when they shot him dead. We likely will never know why he did it, so anything you say can and will be interpreted as irresponsible fear mongering speculation.

How cute, our very own racist conservative sockpuppet. What should we name him?

I work in public health for a Massachusetts municipal government.

For several weeks we have received warnings, from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to be aware of ISIL encouraging sympathetic individuals to attack government and law enforcement personnel.

I scoffed at first, but between the two Canadian deaths (and one serious injury) and this attack, I am not rolling my eyes anymore.

Well of course it’s just GOT to be “Terrorism” because “everyone knows” that New York City has no crazy people roaming the streets. Why it’s the safest place to be in the world and no one even locks their doors there and all of the citizens are the most pleasant, helpful people you will ever meet.

Now, Brooklyn, well, that is a different story.
