Discussion: NY Police Commish Apologized To Ex-Tennis Star White Cops Mistakenly Arrested

Discussion for article #240368

Rest assured the ultra-right lunatic fringe in NYC is furious that an apology was issued.

Good, now apologies to every black male “mistakenly arrested” by the NYPD.

Is he sure he got the right guy this time and not his twin?

“I spoke to Mr. Blake a short time ago and personally apologized for
yesterday’s incident,” Bratton said in a statement, according to a
Thursday Reuters report. “Mr. Blake indicated he would be willing to meet with the Internal Affairs Bureau as our investigation continues.”

That should happen more often when mistakes are made. And like this case it should be done publicly if possible.
Did the cops have a photo of who they were after?

Probably. And if the individual in that photo looked ANYTHING like James Blake, we’d probably know about THAT photo.

But yes, this is the way to handle a shitty situation.

It was racial, absolutely, but why did he have to be tackled to the ground by five cops, whoever he was?

I’ve seen the photo of the (actually innocent as well) suspect. And they do look really similar, just do a google search for “Blake and Suspect”

I can see where the mistake of stopping and detaining (not really arresting though) him could be made, but tackling and aggressively arresting him was wrong and an apology (at the least) is warrented

Apology is not sufficient! :rage:

That was my thought as well and it prompted my question.

I googled “Blake and suspect photo” and found this.

I saw the photo too and they do look somewhat similar, but the funny part is that the guy named as the suspect was also mistakenly accused. Both are bald headed, black men with thicker eyebrows and dimples. Boris Kodjoe better watch his back.

I’m still wondering why Blake was tackled to the ground by 5 cops…

Oh I don’t disagree, I’m just saying I can see how even a good cop could have made the mistake of stopping him him.

That’s the same one I found and that is also showing up on at least ABC news.

Yes, definitely could be a twin. The only difference in the photos is one is outdoor and one is indoor, the indoor one is a little darker and shaded. So they are the same skin tone and the same facial features.

The only difference is one is a criminal, one is a gentleman.

The problem here is the one cop who tackled and slammed Blake. Totally uncalled for, he needs serious disciplinary action taken against him.

ONE cop tackled him, not 5. ONE. And that cop is an asshole and should be disciplined. But it was ONE cop who did the actual charge and takedown (more of a body slam actually).

He was tackled by ONE cop, and also body slammed by him. ONE cop. And that cop should be seriously disciplined, and probably will be (investigation is underway).

Back up. The media are saying both are INNOCENT. And as I posted to you Mr Blake was tackled by five (5) police not one as you have said at least twice.

I’m surprised the police union hasn’t publicly condemned this already.
