Discussion for article #229331
Well, great. We’re back in the days of Ryan White, panicking as a society when the people who actually know something about the situation are futilely trying to make us understand there’s no reason to panic. You have fools like Trump yelling crazy-ass stuff and scoundrels like Christie exploiting the situation to seem tough and decisive, abusing the best people among us when he damn well knows better. I try not to make judgments about my own country as a society when we’re a mass of individuals, but when the official response is fucked then it’s kind of inescapable to think the society is equally fucked. I swear there are days when I want to apply for citizenship in Canada as a cultural refugee.
Good for her, except for when she called Christie “trusted and respected.” Maybe she does have a fever.
You have to love it when GOP Pols take it upon themselves to unskew science.
Time for Fat Bastard to be quarantined until 20JAN2017…
She was probably doing air quotes. I know I would be.
You can invent scenarios in which strict, unwavering quarantine is counterproductive. But they are ridiculous edge cases. Obama has been weak on Ebola, and it’s too late to change course to shield Democrats from a dramatic rebuke on election day.
Horse shit, dear.
I see one of the Saturday Nite Live writers has joined us today.
Pro-tip: you are an ignorant know-nothing.
Yeah, that kind’a jumped out at me.
I put it down to the Ebola talking.
"For him – a politician who’s trusted and respected -
Excuse me? We’re talking about Christie here,
Democracy has prerequisites, including an informed and educated electorate. America hasn’t had that for decades, if it ever did. America has TV hucksters, marketing campaigns as an entertaining alternative to elections, and a free press worth every penny.
Blame Republicans luv…they’re busy terrifying everyone about Ebola…
The end result of this stupid quarantine crap is healthcare workers will stop volunteering to help stop the spread of ebola in Africa. Then it will get completely out of control and we will all be in a world of doo doo. As for Obama being weak on Ebola, unlike the the talking heads on TV he has a brain and is doing the sane thing.
What are you talking about? When the reward for self-sacrificing people who’ve gone to Africa to fight the disease is essentially to be placed under house arrest for three weeks, that IS extreme. It’s going to discourage volunteers from going there to help.
BTW: I noticed you’re taking up the knee-jerk reaction to blame Obama for some unexplained weakness. I’m sure Bush would have invaded someone by now to show how “strong” he was on Ebola.
. “Obama has been weak on Ebola,”
Gave you away, you’re a Fox watcher!
“For him – a politician who’s trusted and respected – to make a statement that’s categorically not true is just unacceptable and appalling,” she said.
Devil’s Advocate here.
Though it’s not a popular subject to ask (in lieu of Grimes), but who’s to say that Hickox isn’t a Christie supporter.
One interesting fact about the Ebola epidemic has been ignored by the media, which has been too busy spreading panic: There have been six Westerners who’ve contracted the disease so far (the two nurses in Dallas, two health care workers returned from Liberia, the NBC camera man, and a Spanish nurse). The mortality rate from the disease in Africa is between 50 and 70%. So far, for people treated promptly in Western hospitals, the mortality rate has been ZERO. Eric Duncan probably would have survived, too, if he hadn’t been misdiagnosed on his first trip to the emergency room. I expect the doctor in New York is gong to recover, too, since he got care when he was in the initial stage of the disease.
Ebola is a horrible disease, but I think that it’s not the death sentence it’s being portrayed as. It’s the lack of proper medical facilities and health care workers in Africa that is condemning so may people to death there.
She may have been a Christie supporter, but I kind of doubt she is now.
If she still is after this, then she deserves what she gets.
