And when your hands get dirty
Nobody knows you at all
Don’t have a window to slip out of
Lights on, nobody home

Or are they rats deserting a sinking ship?

NRSC: We are only out in principle but will be funding Billy Ray as before to defeat The LIberal.

No. That would set a bad precedent for them.

And please do not forget: Alabama gave us George Wallace.

Good for them. I don’t know if it will do any good but it has the APPEARANCE of ‘trying’…

Depends on where you were. The Huntsville and Birmingham metro areas are pretty liberal, relatively speaking. And Doug Jones is well-liked in a way that can translate to some folks crossing party lines. Finally, anecdotally, I personally know conservative Christians in the state who were utterly dismayed when Moore beat Strange in the run-off. They know Moore is poison, and in ways that transcend party politics.

Whether their knowing that will translate into their gritting their teeth and voting for Jones is, of course, the thing we don’t know.

Don’t forget our perjuring, Russia-colluding Attorney General, Jeffy boy!

“When it’s a legitimate Republican, the body politic has natural defenses which can eliminate the problem”.

I had understood that too about Birmingham and environs.

It just does not vary at all anywhere in the nation - it’s urban vs rural. The south has more rural land left than a lot of the country does - but those other states that do: Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas (but it’s shrinking like the GOP hold on Texas is shrinking as we become more urban,) are also heavily GOP. It’s so stupid in a way to me that this cliche of a divide is so clearly what is going on.

If you have Twitter, there’s a fascinating thread from last night that shed a bright light on the context of Moore’s support. It’s a weird Handmaid’s Tale story come to life, and it kinda shows what we’re up against:

I firmly believe that homeschooling is bogus and should be outlawed.

Heck, if a fair number of them decide to just stay home and not vote it would help.

I’m with ya.

I’ll chip in for Jones again. My resource is limited but this is one of those races where even a close loss would be worth investing in (although, of course, a win would be just… great).

3). Your Republican nominee for Senate is a nasty pedophile, hypocrite,
and pervert…and will still likely be the next Senator from your
state.

You left out constitution violating, defrocked Judge…

Which is what attracts all the tedious cliches living in trailer parks across Alabama…

Yes to all. Seeing as I live in Wichita, I can speak some to what’s happening in Kansas: State government is still solidly Republican, but after 5 years of Brownbackian economics, even most Republicans had had enough: enough moderate Republicans and Democrats got elected to override Brownback’s veto this summer of their repeal of most of the tax cuts that have fiscally crippled the state. Lots of Democrats have announced their candidacy for governor, but even one of the Republican candidates is calling for a $600 million increase for public schools–absolutely unheard of in the recent past. As for Congress, if Democrats in my district can scratch their mad places and get glad, they have a decent chance of beating Ron Estes.

Away from the metro areas, that’s still pretty hardcoure GOP country. But beneath the surface, the more moderate Republicanism that Kansas is historically known for seems to be making a return–and that bodes well, I think, for Democrats over the long term.

That’s my thought too… if enough Strange voters feel demoralized and decide to protest against the current state of their party by staying home (and I know I shouldn’t hope for that as a matter of “voting matters” principle, but in this particular case…).

Nah Alabama is Alabama if he wasnt in such a red state Moore would be finished. You notice how they are using the Bible to justify it means the folks down there already knew about this
