The NRA spent $30 million to support Trump in 2016, triple what they spent on fellow Republican Mitt Romney in 2012. The sources of those donations were not disclosed, and two people told McClatchy that the gun lobby’s actual election spend may have been closer to $70 million.
What’s a few orders of magnitude among true patriots who are defending our 2nd Amendment right to be able to kill a lot of people very quickly,
“Given the extraordinarily time-consuming and burdensome nature of your requests, we must respectfully decline to engage in this beyond the clear answers we have already provided,” NRA General Counsel John Frazer wrote in an April 10 letter.
oh, really? I didn’t realize we could just refuse government requests if they are time-consuming and burdensome. Well lucky me! because I was about to spend the next 2 days doing my taxes but it looks like I can just forget about that and have an extra long weekend instead! You know, because it’s too damn time-consuming and burdensome. I’m sure the government will understand.

Bull Phucky… or is it that all the bank transfers will show EXACTLY where the money came from… fraidy cat, fraidy cat, fraidy cat, oh want of one of our PAID stooges in the Congress to bail us out.
Burdensome because there are apparently that many transactions and turning over most of their books would indeed be time consuming. It is my sincere hope that the next year this request turns into subpoena once the House and Senate are retaken.
$2,500. But it’s a magic number of dollars, like the magic number of people Facebook admits were exposed to Russian propaganda and trolling in 2016, that is subject to expansion each time it’s proven to be too low by someone else.
Hiding their rubles…clearly, they were involved, along with the Trump campaign and the Republican Party, with laundering Russian oligarch (mobster) money into Republican candidate campaigns throughout the elections.
That is going to require continued digging into the issue by the media and Congress. The NRA has been exposed here, but they are taking to their old playbook and figuring they can just hunker down and wait it out and nothing will come of it.
But to your point, this one phrase should be enough to set a mass of investigative reporters on the hunt:
“After three letters, the NRA continually, and specifically avoided detailing what measures it takes to vet donations, including from shell companies, a known means for Russians to funnel money into the United States.”
Its so well known that a sitting Senator is referring to as common practice in a public news release. And the collective MSM response is…yawn.
I am sorry, but that just blows my mind. They KNOW that Mueller is investigating money laundering. They KNOW he is investigating Russian money coming into the 2016 campaigns. Its kind of obvious where that will end up. So why in the hell would a journalist not want to make a name for themselves and get on the front edge of that by digging into this practice?
Among the Villagers, that which all Villagers know is not news even if unknown to those who are not Villagers. Just a basic conceptual block there at Versailles, even when the courtiers are feeling discontented and sympathetic to the peons and petty bourgeoisie.
