Discussion: NPR Tweets Declaration Of Independence, Triggers Outrage

Tweeting lines from the Declaration of Independence on July 4th is propaganda?

Sad and terrifically ignorant.

The right wing shows it’s utter stupidity once again. Congrats to NPR for unintentionally exposing this.

Anybody surprised that Trump fans are a bunch of morons?

Movement Conservatism—which is not at all conservative, but instead is a cesspool of radical right-wing nihilism and stupidity----is built on anger, rage, and fear.

Without those things, the whole phony edifice of the modern GOP would collapse like a sand castle at high tide.

I think that was NPR’s intention, to see how many would take the bait

The Founding Fathers meant “bare” arms not bear arms. It was just another freedom so men could show off their big manly arms without being put in the stocks.

Also, these know nothings speak about the “founders” as if they were in the room while the Constitution was crafted. It would serve them well to pick up a book and read. Just a guess here but most probably slept through their U.S. History class. But they are now the experts. smh

Confusing the Declaration of Independence with the U.S. Constitution ?

So you’re claiming the second amendment is a typo?

For 29 years, NPR has been waiting for this moment. Like a sleeper cell.

so my question to D.G. Dipshit is, how many other times did you post something where, five minutes later this same post would be appropriate? “Okay, okay…I screwed up with @npr. I jumped the gun and tweeted when I should have waited for them to finish. I offer my apologies.”

seems to me a whole lot of not thinking going on today, it’s what gets a “rescuer” of child sex slaves in a pizza shop basement 4 years in prison.

this country is fucked by the epic stupidity that permeates it

This is one of those few occasions where an non-apology apology would be appropriate:

“We at NPR would like to apologize to those who were offended this Fourth of July by our publishing the American Declaration of Independence.”

I’m an expert on the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence because I carry booklet forms of both documents in my shirt pocket, just like Cliven Bundy and his boys.

I believe it was common a hundred years ago to actually read the Declaration in public on the Fourth. In more recent years, certainly in my own lifetime, we don’t do that and for some possibly connected reason people who hear it or various passages from the Constitution they claim to admire get really suspicious and wonder if it’s not some commie thing. That’s been going on for ages. Another thing I vaguely recall is reading often enough about doubts the founders had that the regular folks would be able to pull off this self-government thing. I guess that question has never really been settled.

I have mentioned this before, but the historic world leader I find similar to Trump is George III. He was insane and his government didn’t understand their own citizens. A lighter touch and more autonomy and the United States wouldn’t have been needed.
