Discussion: North Korea Brands US 'Graveyard Of Human Rights' After Ferguson

It is when you release them an hour later rather than taking them out behind the building and shooting them. And they still got to report on their experiences, giving you and the North Koreans something to bitch about. Why you want to align yourself with North Korea remains a mystery.

Very nice comparison. This would never have happened in North Korea, Russia or Iran to name a few countries. In most the journalists would have never been heard from again.

True. At least we didn’t line the black folks up and shoot them behind the liquor store.

So…Free Speech!

you may have the last word here of course…

What angers me is that our own Democratic party seems to be absent in this campaign. No where do we see questions about an obscure surgeon, suddenly being qualified to go to DC, is that because she won’t need qualifications, just the Koch handbook? No where does anyone ask the question about what she is willing to sell in return for all of the outside money touting her wares.
No where is a list of the ā€œwantsā€ of the Koch industries and the ā€œconsequencesā€ for our beautiful state if their whore (I apologize but if just makes me see red when I think about her) gets into office.
Is there a Democratic party in Oregon??? There must be I keep getting hysterical pleas for money. Merkely is the only person we have or will donate to this year.

I’ve noticed that also. I’m not a Democrat but I do wonder what their strategy is. Perhaps they want to let the Kochs burn through a lot of their money, have people get tired of the many lies and distortions and then hit hard.

My strategy right now is to not watch much TV but when I do I just mute the ads.

I’m not certain they have to do much to counter the Koch boys here in Oregon like they had to do in Wisconsin. Something about pissing into the wind…

As for MS Scalpels I’ve not heard or read anything from her that is other than boilerplate GOTP talking points.

Oh…she’s pro-choice! Plus she does have that Mitt Romney smile…so sincere…

Of course it’s a shame we make ourselves vulnerable to this criticism. But as you say, there are degrees of being flawed, and some people don’t care about or weigh that. Achieving a truly just pluralistic society is a tricky proposition, especially without a strong tradition of socialism in your political history. Part of our own problem is the sins of our history, part of it is learned prejudice, and part of it is a strong human tendency to suspect people who are different. That got hard-wired into our psyches in the Pleistocene, when it wasn’t healthy to be chummy with strangers. Today we have to get past that somehow, and we’re not there yet. But we’re not Russia, we’re not Iran, and we’re certainly not North Korea. We have work to do, but Jesus, things could be worse, and only a fool would think otherwise.

Sing it comrade Jackinov!

Has anyone looked to find out about USA vs DPRK incarceration rates? Wiki puts the incarceration rate at 600-800 by estimates of human rights organizations. This jibes with our own incarceration rate of 707 per 100,000, which is officially the highest in the world.

I know that their prisons are brutal. But our prisons are brutal too.

Yes, their prisons are mainly for political reasons. But when 12% of the population makes up 40% of the prison population there is real cause for concern. When blacks are imprisoned at 6 times the rate for whites, there is real cause for concern. We’ve stripped the right to vote of 13% of our African-American citizens.

Numbers like this reveal a systemic and planned political motivation, an American gulag.

ā€œThe US is indeed a country wantonly violating human rights where people are subject to discrimination and humiliation due to their race, and are in constant fear that they may get shot at any moment.ā€

As hypocritical as the North Korean statement is, it is still quite true.

This will be your only warning to stop with the personal insults and stick to the topic at hand. These types of comments are neither clever nor funny and if I see another, there will be a suspension. I do not have unlimited patience.

I think that means she gets to choose what procedures she wants to do on the kids, even if there isn’t much evidence they work or are even accepted by the neurosurgery community. I personally think she is another Michele Bachman and Sara Palin rolled into one. That said it does not mean there are a lot people who will fall for the long hair, female and Dr. traits and vote for her anyway.

I’m not too worried about her getting elected. The ads are only serving to fatten the coffers of local media. Since she’s now polling nineteen points behind we can expect The Kochs to pour even more money into Oregon. Let’s take all the outside money we can as long as it has no impact.

The Governor’s race is more problematic for me. For the life of me I cannot figure out why Kitz wants to be elected again. It’s not like we have anything positive to show for his third term, quite the opposite actually.

We should probably continue this discussion via the Private Message feature if you want. I’m always interested in listening to what other Oregonians are thinking this election cycle

That’s a good idea, but I have no idea how to create one or access one. I work on figuring that out.

It’s easy!

Just right click on my avatar and you’ll be given a choice to see my profile or Send a ā€œPrivate Messageā€ When you send the message a little number 1 will appear on the left side of the ā€œchatā€ icon in the upper right hand of the screen of the person you sent to message to.

The chat icon being the little grey cloud like icon to the right of the TPM icon.

Excuse me? Where exactly is there a ā€œpersonal insultā€?

You have amazing double standards, completely blind to the constant insults from your ā€œregularsā€ and it’s quite obvious.

I delete personal insults directed towards you from them as well as your own comments. I do value your contributions here, but if you can’t dial back your habit of making it personal and nasty, I will show you the door.

No problem, Mike. I’ll make sure to flag every single personal insult from the usual gang directed towards me, now that I am aware of the high standards of discourse that you are encouraging.

Which I am sure will get your immediate attention, being a fair-minded guy.

You missed one, Mike.
