Discussion for article #240046
Another anchor baby governor speaks.
The movement that laid waste - would that be cops shooting unarmed men? Because that is the precipitating event.
Yeah, because Baltimore and Ferguson were shiny cities on the hill before #BLM. Everyone was happy, cheery, and holding hands on the corner singing their joyful songs…unless they didn’t make eye contact with the police, or did make eye contact, or jaywalked…
the way her state handled
Yes, Nikki was a grudging participant not an actor until late in the game…so, sit down.
Troll troll troll. Clementa Pinckney and his murdered parishoners barely cold and Nicki’s back to race-baiting.
Is it actually accurate to say that anyone died in the Baltimore or Ferguson riots? I know there were adjacent shootings of alleged criminals by police, but I don’t recall anyone dying because a burning building collapsed or anything. Not that Haley’s ilk would ever be bothered with facts, but y’know, TPM could perform a service here by fact-checking the spew.
While SC did a good job of handling these two situations, and the ensuing riots in Ferguson and Baltimore did hurt Black people, Niki blaming the victims of police out of control and corrupt government in Ferguson and the Baltimore shooting is out of line.
Black people love all this free advice about what is an acceptable way to express outrage over racism.
Which “movement” is that, governor? Would that be the “movement” that involves the police shooting unarmed blacks?
This week in “Great Public Relations Blunders!”
Dear Governor Haley, black folks just long for your advice on how they should conduct their protests. How racist–oops nice–of you. Are you perhaps suggesting that the thoroughly white behavior of municipal judges, police, and elected officials in Ferguson was above reproach? Perhaps you need to digest the DOJ report on those events before spewing forth nonsense.
Thank you.
This ain’t just a problem on the right. Check out the other thread on BLM. Plenty of liberals feel just as justified in criticizing and dismissing black people for the actions of a handful of people, even going so far to blame them for a potential 2016 loss.
Baltimore seemed to handle things better than Ferguson but Ferguson’s police and municipal court personnel were out of control. NIkki shouldn’t blame the victims in Ferguson without acknowledging that town was an organized mess. There was a place for protest.
Ok, some glaring omissions here
a) “Most of the people killed or injured in the riots in Ferguson and Baltimore were black.” -who was killed (by protestors, or “rioters” if you will since many don’t bother to make that distinction) in either Ferguson or Baltimore? National news made the Baltimore riots out to be much worse than they actually were and showed the corner of Pennsylvania and North over and over and over for a week long after the riots (which actually happened because of a BS bulletin about gangs targeting police officers and the series of incompetent decisions that followed).
b) Michael Slager would have gotten away with murdering Walter Scott, using the standard boilerplate law enforcement lying narrative, had it not been for a bystander’s video - such as this is, when the video showed it was clearly a murder, he was fired immediately. You are a damn fool if you think there would have been no unrest in Charleston had Slager not been quickly arrested and charged.
c) Dylann Roof was immediately arrested. There was nothing to protest here. I do notice, however, that white conservative SC residents made a big show of how they were being not-racist by showing they were upset by the church shooting, like they were supposed to be awarded points for this.
I think she does make a point. If someone sprays graffiti on your garage door you don’t burn down your house and your neighbors houses in protest. If a Cop murders a member of your community you don’t trash that community in protest. What the Governor is saying is if Black lives matter than why don’t the folks screaming that act like it.
Where she goes wingnut is in implying that BLM was involved in those riots. They weren’t.
Here we go. BLM is the problem (NOT)
They chose to quickly to focus on a symbol of racism so they didn’t have to address the causes of, or support for such institutional racism.
Most importantly, it changed the subject from gun control.
Nikki has no credibility, she didn’t blame Obama. Damn, Nikki, tune into Fox and get with the program.
I agree. When black folks protest injustice they are labeled militants or terrorists. I find the attempts by the police in Texas and Illinois to try to tie BLM to the police shootings is reprehensible. There is nothing to prove the guy in Texas had anything to do with BLM and instead is a disturbed individual nor is there anything connecting two white men and one black man to BLM who shot the officer in Illinois. Yet actual white terrorists can threaten the President without being labeled terrorists. Sickening is what it is.
Li’l Nimrata needs to shut her lying piehole.
No one will choose her as a Veep candidate—which is what this little whinefest is all about.
