I’ve always like her; she’s someone on the other side of the aisle that we can work with.

Personally, I think you give her too much credit. She occasionally says something reasonable, but she still votes with the GOP. She also didn’t hesitate to take a position in the Trump administration.
However, her quote describing Trump’s position as “He’s got a lot of things he’s doing,” tells you that she’s proudly as horrified as many of us.

I’ll give her credit for taking down the confederate flag… but that’s about it.

She didn’t really take it down, but I’ll give her credit for not putting it back up. Of course, I’m not sure whether that was principle or simply inertia.

Haley had a somewhat contentious relationship with Trump during the run up to the election, at one point saying she was “not a fan”.

She’s definitely not drunk the kook aid like some others, and is not in his inner circle, I would think.

I guess it’s symbolic that a member of his team is off that reservation? Or maybe she can read the tea leaves and is preserving her future?

As for Trump’s equivocation when it comes to criticizing Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Haley said: “He’s got a lot of things he’s doing.”
Yep, he and his team are quite busy.

If the GOP base was smart (I know totally hypothetical), she’d have a bright future. By her very upbringing she is inoculated against the rabid racism and anti-immigration alt-right strain, and she could appeal to conservative minority and immigrant voters.

The country would be much better off with that kind of sane conservative party - but then again this will never happen.
