So Nikki Haley thinks music should be devoid of politics. Has she never heard of “Ohio” writtten just days after the Kent State massacre? A Springsteen ode to the country and its beleaguered working class? A Johnny Cash story song about a Native American war hero Ira Hayes who raised the flag at Iwo Jima? Marvin Gaye’s What’s going on?
She ought to get out among her fellow UN representatives and ask about the musicians in their respective nations. Some have been persecuted for writing and performing uh, political songs.
Maybe her view is warped from not having an opinion about the Lost Causer flag at the state capital until after the church massacre. Or was it some wretched old Johnny Reb records that got to her head.
