This is interesting. These are echoes of the thinly veiled threats segregationists would make against King and those against Obama, where a racist, or a right winger (is there any important distinction between those categories).
In 57, MLK was set to visit Raleigh, but Jesse Helms (on the city council at the time) stated that there was no way to guarantee MLK’s safety in the event that he did.
The Sheriff stood up and stated that he was certain that his department could, rebuking the racist Helms directly.
What if there is a sickout that morning? I, for one, would not feel comfortable sitting in the Capitol with every official in Washington with a workforce protecting me that had not been paid since before Christmas or headquarters support. This is the Speaker’s prerogative.

Trump is likely the most reviled person on the planet were such a title quantified. If I was Trump I wouldn’t feel secure stowed away in a safe room, armed with an Uzi, accompanied by a pit bull, wearing a Kevlar body suit, all buried beneath a mountain within a DoD military base ringed by nuclear launch silos. That he makes it through the day in the White House unharmed is a bit of a mystery to me.
Pelosi didn’t say those agencies would not perform their jobs. The point is they are not being paid, and it is just wrong to force them to risk their lives for no pay, when you could just as easily submit the written version of the speech.
Plus, the written version would be short, very short, believe me. Cannot ad lib in a written speech.

WTF?? If she’s referring to the speech, she’s completely and totally missed the message. The delay is not about safety but about appropriateness.

The White House is like a fortress, and he never leaves it unless he is in The Beast or Marine 1. I agree that having him in the Capitol is a security nightmare. Plus, there are homes in the immediate neighborhood. It ain’t no airplane hangar.
