“…guarded against foreign interference in our democracy.”
Pants on fire lie number 1,230,302. I defy anyone to point to a single thing any Trump era executive agency has done in this regard. The notion that the GOP would countenance any such effort died when Mitch-Fucking-McConnell blocked refused to cooperate in disseminating such information before the '16 election. FOH.
An administration falls apart at the seams, a president who seemingly can’t focus on anything else dumping his top deputy on the subject, and otherwise sensible people still cannot resist seeing anything other than the next big bold dark step in our march to fascism.
It’s a credulity problem on par with the NYT taking Barr’s Mueller summary wholly at face value. Y’all, there is no plan. There is no scheme. People just show up to work every morning and shit in their hands until Trump fires them in a fit of pique.
This whole article makes little sense. Apparently, Nielsen showed up at her meeting with Trump with a resignation letter already drafted and signed. She must have seen the handwriting on the wall when Trump withdrew his nomination of the ICE chief – without telling Nielsen in advance – because he wanted to go “in a tougher direction.”
That’s a clue, and I don’t believe Nielsen went to that meeting assuming that the “way forward” included her.
I wonder exactly how this went down. I have a hard time imagining Trump the Chicken-hearted firing anyone to their face. That being said, he’s been openly bullying her for months, not to mention harassing her privately with those early-morning phone calls.
Footnote for history books: “Demonstrably heartless public servant connived to achieve career success and political clout by toadying on behalf of corrupt President. It did not end well.”
I expect it’s directly linked to his withdrawal of the nomination the other day, due to the dude not being in favor of death camps as a solution to all the unaccompanied minors.
Looks like she walked in with an ultimatum, took the Mattis route.
…Probably complete with the heavy breathing and “what are you wearing right now” queries…
Well, they did rustle up a fancy golden plaque with trump’s name prominently embossed that asserted the repairs to an existing fence were the first new glorious miles of the promised wall. That was his new toy.
Nielsen was willing to go along with the kidnappings and baby-caging, but said no to gunning down immigrants and asylum seekers, so her days were numbered.
The problem is that he’s insane. He regularly asks people to do things that are illegal, and goes apeshit when they push back. He has no understanding whatsoever of legal constraints. None.
You can only work for a yo-yo a certain amount of time, after that time, you CHOOSE to work for a yo-yo.
This was another of the Great Orange Pretender’s chosen Enablers. She Enabled the caging of children in the 21st Century, in spite of all that “Mankind” was supposed to have paid for leaning in the mid-20th Century. So, in the end, one is forced to see that this soulless paper shuffler not only worked for a Yo-Yo of her own free will, but we also see that she was just as much of a yo-yo, and possibly far worse, because she had the power to stop it, and she did not.
“I was only following orders.” has not been a Defence in a long time. It is even less of one now.
Not a word of praise or thanks for Trump in that letter, other than for nominating her to the position and only then in the last paragraph. That’s a bit of a change from those other fulsome resignation letters. Nielsen’s an awful person for having put up with the SOB-in-Chief for so long, but you’ve got to admire her capacity for pain and suffering.
Pretty sure her first mistake was not resigning when he first asked her department to engage in crimes against humanity with the whole child internment scheme.
Apparently the main point of contention was that Trump wanted to restart the Family Separation policy all over again and Nielsen pointed out he’d be violating his own Executive Order.
