Shorter Democrats; “Well we will most certainly lock the gate next time”
History is no longer a guide to anything anymore. We are in strange times in which one of the worst human beings just became leader of the free world. He’s not like W Bush or even Cheney. I don’t think any Democrat on Capitol Hill thinks this is business as usual.
The GOP doesn’t care. They will dump the filibuster to ensure the end of freedom in America.
Not wishing ill on anyone but the next judge to drop off will probably be a conserative man…just sayin’…
The only appropriate Democratic response is to say that if Merrick Garland does not get a fair hearing and vote, they will treat all of Trump’s nominees in precisely the same fashion. If the Republicans want to abolish the filibuster, after pulling the Garland stunt this past year, let them. But anything less than an eye for an eye is not a response.
McConnell wants to win big in 2018, when dozens of Democratic Senators are up for re-election. There’s a lot of reckless shit that Ryan and Trump plan to do that the turtle will quietly suffocate in his chamber.
My senator who lives in SF where I do makes me very proud today. I may have to rethink my opinion of forced retirement in 2018, when she’ll be 85.
@daled @georgeh Stay unimpressed and unsupportive. That’s the road to more failure. You have no idea what can be done even with a minority if the leader of that minority is a smart tactician, and we’ll have Schumer in that role.
They aren’t going to call. They’re going to kill the filibuster and ram who ever they want through.
Thanks assholes who either didn’t vote or cast a protest vote. Oh, and fuck you too.
You know what? America is dead. Just get used to it.
Democrats must be united in filibustering any Trump nominee until Garland get renominated and gets an up or down vote. The Republicans will probably kill the filibuster as a result, which is fine. What good is it if we don’t use it? Let them get the bad press of killing the filibuster, which we will use against their Senators when they are up for reelection.
Then, we need to work HARD to turn a couple of Republicans against any of the more awful nominees they might come up with. They have a bare majority and not every Republican loves Trump.
The theft of Obama’s Supreme court nomination cannot be forgotten.
In other words, if they use history as their guide, I will bitch-slap all of those whips in the face. They must never, ever bargain with a neo-Nazi fascist administration and its party. Never.
I concur we need to use every tool at our disposal to make them pay a high price for this kind of abuse of power.
As well as – what’s that thing the Rs love to rant about? – oh yeah, the Constitution.
Not just a seat on the Court; based on voter suppression efforts, it’s more than likely that they stole the White House, too:
“Trump’s victory margin in Michigan was 13,107 and the Michigan Crosscheck purge list was 449,922. Trump’s victory margin in Arizona- 85,257, Arizona Crosscheck purge list- 270,824;. Trump’s victory margin in North Carolina was 177,008 and the North Carolina Crosscheck purge list had 589,393 people on it.”
A top priority has to be stop the Ryan / Trump efforts to strongly injure Medicare / Social Security.
To everyone who says the Dems are going to roll over on this: you want to know why Congress doesn’t stand up when we want them to? Because we don’t make them! Republicans got away with this Garland nonsense because there was exactly zero pressure put on them to bring him to a vote. Sure, polls showed that Americans wanted a vote, but how many people picked up their phones and turned the heat up on these fools? I count myself in the number who could have done more, but I was complacent because i really didnt think my side would lose. Well that complacency is gone now. The stakes are too high to sit back and complain on a message board. It’s time to actually become a player in all of this, and that means making our voices heard. So lay off the cynicism and make some calls. MAKE them work for us the way they are supposed to!/end rant
Dems have to block everything; Everything. Its ok to lose Fillibuster. Our system is fucked up and no one can fix it with the majority of our population being completely ignorant about issues that impact them.
I am all for a blue slip on anybody that even smells Right-wing
Who knows? Maybe the Republican majority will do away with the filibuster, just like Harry Reid wanted?
Bingo. That’s why I don’t think he’ll completely kill the filibuster. He needs to be able to stop the House and stop Trump. The Republican Party needs him to do that. The country and the world needs it.
