Discussion for article #234802
Why not just bring back the draft? Then the warmongers can have all the disposable bodies they need for the next globalist kingpin’s escapades, as we export “freedom” and “democracy” worldwide – at a cost of trillions in cash moved from the weak to the strong, and covered in far too much blood.
[In the final two years of the War, as regular Wehrmacht force loss became unsustainable], Volksturm units were mostly composed of members of the Hitlerjugend [as young as 13], invalids, the elderly [aged past 60], and men who had previously been considered unfit for service. Correspondlngly, girls as young as 14 began receiving instruction in the use of small-arms, bazookas, machine guns and hand grenades from December 1944 to May 1945. . .
(from Wikipedia entry, “Volksturm”).
I have a better idea. Draft the kids of households with incomes over $250,000. They should be well-educated and a picture of health. And they’re the ones with the most “freedom” that needs defending.
easing some military enlistment standards as part of a broader set of initiatives to better attract and keep quality service members and civilians across the Defense Department.
Yes, it is well known that loosening baseline standards for a position attracts and retains the best candidates…huh? Sounds more like a ploy to enlist substandard individuals as cannon fodder for action in the Middle East.
Won’t need that many troops if we stop going to war.
There has been much discussion lately about allowing service members to participate in 401k-type programs because as much as 80 percent of the people who enlist don’t stay in long enough to earn retirement benefits.
It is not a bad idea. However, Republicans will surely do what they are trying to do to medicare, eliminate the existing plan for a reduced benefit and use the savings to fund another giant tax-cut.
Bull jive. The attempt to make war invisible to the general American public had a major flaw. The small number of volunteers were repeatedly deployed in harm’s way and ignored when they returned. If they came home to broken marriages or suicide, oh well, they volunteered for it. If they came home by way of Dover’s highly efficient mortuary President Bush never so much as hugged a widow at Arlington. If they came home wounded in mind and or body, the VA was underfunded. And when they came home nobody knew or cared why the hell they were over there in the first place, what with a well censored corporate owned press reporting not much of anything that might evoke gratitude from the nation.
It is no mystery why the great majority burned rubber getting out of the military machine at their earliest possible chance. The way the Vets were treated made sure Vets would never encourage their friends and relatives to sign up.
The DOD can pay contractor cyber nerds as much as they want, by the way.
The 90% need more cannon fodder.
That concept has fallen out of fashion of late. Richard III died at Bosworth Field in 1485, at the end of the War of the Roses. He was the last king to participate in battle. Oligarchs have “better things to do.”
Well, said, tao. Next thing you know the US will be recruiting from Eastern Europe. It is smelling more like the fall of Rome by the day.
Bring back the draft but reduce the size of the armed forces overall. So much of what we can do militarily is now “mechanized” in some fashion that ground troops are used mostly as occupational forces. We never had to put troops on the ground in Iraq if our soul goal was to destroy its ability to obtain or produce WMD. We so thoroughly degraded Iraq’s infrastructure in about an hour that they wouldn’t be building anything for decades. All the subsequent invasion accomplished was killing more people and destroying housing stock and non-military structures.
The idea of a required national service of some kind has always appealed to me. A certain percentage of yahoos will want to be in the killing branch of this, but other could be given the choice of working for new versions of VISTA the CCC. The crucial aspect of this is that there could be no deferments of any kind for anyone.
Guns or butter. Empire or nation. Freedom is not free.
