I truly dread the thought of The NBC Nightly News with Luke Russert!
I guess it comes down to where Williams was staying - that should be easy to answer.
He’s toast. NBC will have to bounce his lyin’ ass before too long because they have to give the appearance they care about journalism, something Fox doesn’t even have to think about.
Uh oh. Time to circle the wagons!
Because that always turns out well, right?
The thought that scares me even more than Luke Russert at the helm is Chuck Todd or Andrea Mitchell. I would much rather Williams stay right where he is than to give Todd or Mitchell an even higher perch to spin their mindless, “not my job”, “both sides” bullshit. Even Luke Russert would be a better option than the two of them.
Brian Williams will never forget the horror of watching the White House being destroyed from Air Force One, having barely escaped the carnage with former Gulf War pilot and US President Thomas J. Whitmore and Robert Loggia.
Brian Williams will never forget the horror of landing on Omaha beach and watching the carnage occurring all around him. But that pales in comparison to the horrors he observed at Antietam and Shiloh… which were child’s play to the gruesome scene at Thermopylae he witnessed.
I’d rather watch the reanimated corpse of David Broder than Luke Russert.
And I’d almost rather see Rupert Murdoch take over The Nightly News than Chuck Todd. At least Murdoch doesn’t pretend to be impartial, and the audience would know what they’re getting. Todd, on the other hand, plays too cute by half as he sells the Republican Party talking points.
Brian Williams will never forget the horror of what he saw as a 4 year old child in Dealy Plaza on November 22, 1963.
Brian Williams is an interesting study in white privilege. Rich kid, not too bright, but very pretty. Probably accustomed to getting what he wanted without too much effort. Transfers from college to college but never collects a degree, and then presto change-o, he effortlessly climbs the media ladder based on blond good looks and a gift of gab. People like Joy Reid and Melissa Harris-Perry have to graduate from Harvard and Duke and still have to keep proving again and again that they’re smart. Not the likes of Brian Williams and that other college dropout Chuck Todd.
One thing I hate is this feeds people’s belief that they can just say “Well, if you believe the news” to dismiss any fact you cite. More and more people just wave away any inconvenient fact from any source, no matter how credible and authoritative, and this sort of thing just adds to it.
“When you look out of your cave entrance overlooking the shallow inland sea and watch a Triceratops float by face down, when you see bodies that you last saw during the last extinction event and swore to yourself that you would never see in your geologic era,” Williams said in the immediate aftermath of the Chicxulub impact.
Not to defend BW, but he was staying at the Ritz Carlton. While marketed as a “French Quarter Hotel,” it is actually adjacent to the French Quarter, on Canal. Very close to the Dome. There was flooding in the Ritz Carlton, and the streets surrounding RC were flooded.
Would this paper question the veracity of Fox news? Bet not.
Sounds like BW might not have been fibbing in this case then? His agent (or Williams himself) needs to respond with this information if he has any hopes of salvaging his career.
And just for the record, it’s a sign of how completely dysfunctional our overall media environment is that journalism “professionals” will all be piling on Williams for the helicopter stuff yet will keep their craven pie holes shut over the 24/7/365 stream of unending lies and bullshit emanating from FoxNews.
Contemporaneous report from a Doctor staying at the Ritz Carlton at the time
At what point will Williams’ defense be: Hey, I don’t write the news anyway. I’m just the handsome man who reads what all those nerds put on the teleprompter.
And then maybe the next step is for people to realize that TV news is crap and that you shouldn’t trust news unless you can easily verify what you read. TV news is for people who want to pretend they’re informed, but need to have news spoonfed to them by attractive people. I’ve always found it to be the most useless way to learn anything.
This shows the location of the RC. As you can see, the hotel is on the NW corner of the French Quarter, not IN the French Quarter. The rough boundaries of the Quarter are Rampart on the North, The river on the south, Esplanade on the East and Canal on the West. The dome is approx. at Poydras and the interstate.
