O/T but now there are 3

The father of one of the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre took his own life Monday morning at Edmond Town Hall, in Newtown, according to police.

I’m tempted to picture a White House intern frantically scribbling an index card for Trump, even as we speak.

But, of course, that would imply they actually give a damn.

Talking about his family without mentioning the patriarchs, his father Stewart and uncle (Mark’s father) Mo who ran for president against Carter?

I know, right? I had a vague recollection about Mo running when I was a teenager but was pretty sure he was part of a political family at the time, because that was contrasted with Carter, who wasn’t.

How’s our Bench in NM?

Pretty good. It’s a Democratic state. Someone will roll up and take a shot at Udall’s seat though they won’t be a Udall, obviously.

Hector Balderas, NM Attorney General, has my support.

Former Sen Jeff Bingaman was a former NM Attorney General.

The obvious GOP nominee is Steve “I Wanna Be a Senator” Pearce, but he’s been beaten twice now in statewide elections. Heinrich beat him for the Senate seat in 2010(?) and Lujan-Grisham drubbed him pretty well in last year’s Governor’s race. (In fairness, he was running with Susana Martinez draped around his neck like a dead albatross.) Maybe he’ll take the hint and sit this out, but I kind of doubt it. I’m not sure who else the GOP could put forward that is a plausible state-wide candidate. John Chavez, maybe?

On the (D) side, there are a few on the bench besides the obvious sitting Congressfolk. I’d put Joe Cervantes near the top of that list, though I’m not sure how well-known he is statewide.

ETA:
@jkrogman Balderas would be a good choice.

You know more about it than I do. I know about Pearce from his run against Michelle Lujan Grisham for governor. Other than him, I don’t know any of the other GOP in the state. And I’m not up on all the Democrats who might run either.

I lived in Dona Ana county for 27 years, and a piece of my heart is still there. I try to keep up.

I suppose Pearce will run. He’s lost two state-wide elections, one for the Senate and one for Governor.

He’s a conservative GOPer in a Dem state. He will lose again if he runs. Strike 3!

We will elect a Dem to succeed Udall, I’d bet on it.

Yeah I have throttled back my open enthusiasm where I think it might result in more people getting it. hahahaha

I miss the food terribly. Fortunately, I can get the components I need locally to make posole and enchiladas.

I miss the food when I’m here in Dallas. I miss the Guadalajara Grill - we live behind the norte grill in Taos and o my god it’s good.

Ortega’s in ABQ is a favorite. It’s not well-known. The whole wheat sopapillas are a delicacy that I haven’t found anywhere else.
