New Jersey Boy Struck, Killed By Police Cruiser On Way To Sleepover

So police cruisers in New Jersey get to have sleepovers?

Guess it pays to be a machine paying into the Christie political machine.

Pays better than the unpaid TPM copy editors, who lack the resources to prevent subject/verb mismatches :wtf:

Are you really unable to understand what “New Jersey Boy Struck, Killed By Police Cruiser On Way To Sleepover” meant? If so, please only respond to a story that you wrote and witnessed

Why shouldn’t we hold our media to high standards for grammar? As Cincypix proves, poor grammar distracts from the story.

I’m not sure whether the headline comes from AP or TPM, but both should be employing editors IMHO.

Headline could have been “New Jersey Boy On Way to Sleepover Struck, Killed by Police Cruiser”.

Correct. And for the record the Editors at each media outlet write the headline for the AP stories they procure. And sometimes they are a joke grammatically.

While the desire for proper grammar is laudable, I really think the more important story here is the death of a child who was doing nothing wrong. I’ll reserve judgement on the guilt of the officer until more details are reported, but this is not about sentence structure. Yes, the headline is grammatically wrong, but that’s not really terribly important to the child or his parents.

I am unable to understand why you can’t pick up on the fact that the way the headline is edited. The way it reads, either the boy OR the police cruiser could be on the way to a sleepover.

Unless you can tell me about your experience editing copy and headlines, I suggest you STFU.

If you use your brain, you’ll be able to figure out which is the case. (maybe)
