Discussion: New GOP Immigration Bill Would Bar Family Separation, Protect DREAMers

I am betting that they are too stupid to do that.

I am delaying my opinion until I’ve consulted my King James for the appropriate case law…

If the summary is to be believed, the ONLY thing Dems would support is stopping the separation of families. “Eventual” path to citizenship sounds like “we’ll figure that out ‘later’.”

So, since this seems to be a Conservative bill with detention, but not separation of families., it may very well come to a vote and go down in defeat which the Repubs will use to pound the Dems in the midterms for being unwilling to compromise.

I believe we refer to this as “Politics as usual.”

Sad.

Is there such a beast? I thought the Trumpistas drove them all away with character assassinations, insults, and trolls.

As far as I’m concerned - they are no longer the GOP or the Republican Party.

What they are - The Fourth Reich.
And Pinocchio Rose can get up and tell us all how the bible supports crap and no one will call her out on it but she needs to be shunned by the press.

I don’t want to see Democrats enabling PP’s delusions of building a “big, beautiful wall”, Pelosi’s not going to rush to its defense, her caucus will follow her lead, so we’re probably looking at a DOA proposal. Five months before an election also sounds opportunistic with no Rs completely willing to fight for it either.

I honestly thought the members of the press should have walked out of the briefing today when Sarah Sanders insulted Jim Acosta. “You can’t understand simple sentences” is just way beyond the pale in terms of talking to a professional journalist. (The insults and lies are not acceptable and sometimes a protest is the only way to make the point.)

President Obama’s press secretary Josh Earnest is on MSNBC panels once in a while, and while he doesn’t name names, particularly hers, you know that he’s horrified at how the briefings have devolved into a forum for settling scores, disseminating PP propaganda, and it’s not supposed to be that way. Wouldn’t it be grand to one day see the press corps walk out en masse, perhaps led by April Ryan who seems to have absorbed most of the body blows without losing too much cool.

Have you ever seen a posse of ICE guys walk into a public place like a Starbucks? They’re big, usually muscular, heavily armed, and even I as a citizen quiver at the sight of them. Imagine the unprotected immigrants and their fear.

The book broke my heart, and the movie even more so.

I can’t quote scripture but Ive read that the Bible verses Sessions and the Trump White House used to justify forcible separation and caging of immigrant children are the same used before the Civil War to justify slavery.

I agree, this is absolutely horrendous for these families and what has been happening with the dreamers, but I need to know more details. The wall, this deal, I fear, are distractions. I think we need to keep a laser-like focus on the separation of families. The religious are jumping into the issue which is good news. Bout time they piped up.

Please just pass this bill to stop the babies taken away from their mother while breast feeding the 4 month baby. Nothing is more important then this. We can correct the bill later after November by taking the money for the bill for the wall next year. Please, just stop this inhumanity that our government is doing. When I hear that the CBP employees are taking children for showers, then they never return, scares the hell out of me. What were the German citizens doing in 1938-1939 could have stopped the showers of 1943. Are we the same as the 1939 Germans, and all we do is talk about it, but do nothing, with our government actually quoiting the Bible to justify their outrageous actions. Did the Germany government in 1938 say the thing, justifying their arresting and the harassment of Jews.

Wonder of that bit from the Bible about the divine right of kings is something that Putin is playing with.

I’m pretty sure that the Russian Orthodox Church does not use the King James Bible.

From The Economist

There are several poison pills for Repubs and Dems in that bill. “crafted by GOP leadership” in the House makes it a non-starter.
