I’m pretty sure that for the subset of the population who actually believes that (as opposed to understanding your sarcasm), it was either 1964 or the end of the Civil War…maybe a combination of the two.
haha…sorry…I didn’t mean that literally…just me being crass and ranting…don’t take it personally.
“Entitlement” in budget speak means spending that doesnt have to be appropriated every year, it is a technical term. A better term is “mandatory spending”, it doesnt have the emotional baggage of “entitlement”.
Dicks from day one.
True enough…because “entitlement” in GOP/Teatroll-speak means “everything that is or should have been mine but that is not coming to me because it’s going to a bunch of people who shouldn’t have rights but who we stupidly gave rights to anyway.”
As I get on in years I’ll sit back and watch as the pathetic voters let these oligarchs dismantle Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. I never thought it would come to this so quickly.
GOP: “I’se gots mine. Fuck y’alls.”
Nothing new here.
I hope so, but I’m not sure about that likelihood.
For the two years leading up to the 2014 midterms, the Republicans made all kinds of offensive comments and outrageous policy proposals that were bound to enrage women, students, minorities, gays etc.
And yet, they swept the elections amid historically low turnout.
I hate to sound pessimistic, but I don’t know what it would take at this point to energize Democrats and liberals to get out and vote.
If the Democrats in the Senate allow this to go through they should stop calling themselves Democrats. OTOH old people, you voted for these guys, so maybe you should get what you voted for.
If i understand correctly, the rule would only for e a cut in disability, not in old age benefits.
With all the whining about executive orderz how doez the house get to legislate through a rule?
We’ve all been saying for years that the easiest fix for Social Security is to raise or eliminate the cap on amount of earnings which can be taxed. It would fix all these Republican caused problems with just a snap of the fingers.
The GoP interpretation of “reform” is to reset the clock and “take away” or “reduce” payout or the “calculation” of payout of public benefits!
All the Tea Party folks who are on disability and hate the government (and there seem to be quite a number of them) won’t know what hit them.
Sure they will. Fox News will be sure to carefully explain to them how this is the Democrats’ fault.
But don’t worry… the 65 percent of you [that didn’t vote]… none of this applies to you.
You got to love the GOP. Their first priority is to go after disabled peoples money. What a truly rotten bunch of bastards. I work with disabled people. Their SSDI money is already a pittance, not enough to survive on.
An interesting angle on the whole thing - because states have been cutting their Medicare programs, they’ve been referring the people who need it over to SSID and even counseling them how to maneuver through the process. So, yeah, the state-level goopers could be coming in for it as well, if SOMEBODY would develop and hone the message. (Attention Democratic Party.)
The ‘tort reform’ movement. Working hard to shield corporate evildoers since the 1980s
I like your posts on this, Sherlock. I am left with one main question. Does Obama have the authority to veto this rule? If so, he should, without any concessions. If not, he should also not offer any concessions to R’s to lift the rule. Let it stand, and use it as a stick to beat R’s with. After all, a congressional rule will last only as long as given Congress will last, and hopefully this one will last only two years.
I wonder how long it will take before the idiots who elected this Republican Congress will realize what they have really done.
Article I, section 7 of the Constitution grants the President the authority to veto legislation passed by Congress and the presidential veto has no leverage against House rule changes. One only hopes that any damage the Republicans cause will indeed be ‘corrected’ in 2016. ~fingers crossed!~
It’s going to be a very bumpy ride til’ then!
