Discussion: Nevada Dem: Harry Reid Told Me To Quit Race, Saying 'A Muslim Cannot Win'

I don’t know whether Reid said that or not but…the guy got his name out there regardless…that’s worth some money.

Sounds like a miscommunication, or rather a case of the Senators office offering brutal honesty when a tad more tact would have been better.

That having been said, when faced with a candidate who is a nut job (I mean believes in a god), I tend to look for evidence first that he or she can separate religion from politics. I am more likely to vote for an Islamic nut job Dem than a Christian one, but both better make it damn clear that they have no plans to stone a guy for sucking another man’s penis.

The reason, by the way, that I trust a Muslim Democrat is that by choosing to be a democrat they are showing a willingness to compromise their religious beliefs for the sack of party and country.

Yikes - I really need more info on this situation than the article provides. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if a Muslim running for office for the first time would have problems in NV. But I’d like to know what part of NV he’s in? Who are the constituents there? Is he in a primary with other Dems? The fact that he provided copies of messages in which his religion wasn’t cited tells me the guy is itching for a fight that doesn’t exist but gets him name exposure.

I don’t know what was said or not said, but a couple questions:

  1. So why can’t he run anyway with or without Reid’s support? I know Reid has great influence in Nevada, but he, himself, barely won the Senate election last time. He can still try to garner favor with other power brokers in the Nevada state party, but if he can’t find any to back him…then his chances at winning are very low.

  2. Why go public, especially without incontrovertible evidence? He just burned his bridges with the state party, I imagine, and will be hard pressed winning a nomination for anything going forward.

Historically a lot of first timers lose their first campaigns. That being said this gentleman’s run should never be about his religion. Take the loss, learn from it. Politics is a blood sport. Not many people involved in politics as a profession are nice people at the core of their being. They would happily stab their own sister in the back if it got them power. That is what politics is about…power.

Harry is already at least one step ahead of this guy.

Politicians lie?

The Post reported that Sbaih provided emails and text messages with Reid allies to bolster his account, but noted those messages did not show the minority leader or his allies referring to Sbaih’s race or religion as an obstacle in the House race.

So basically…its not true, or he misunderstood what was being told to him and took it personally instead of professionally as a first time candidate. Lemme guess…now he wants to run as a Republican.

Somehow the way this guy is handling it only validates Reid’s point.

Trump: I can help out, I will send this terrorist to where he belongs.
Cruz: We need to patrol where he lives. He is dangerous to our free society.

Maybe. But it would have been worth more money if Reid had endorsed him in some way.
So, by comparison, it’s worth less money. Which means it’s worthless!

  1. Actually in 2010 Reid was re-elected by 6% points on a year that saw a republican wave election. If you are a democrat in Nevada, running with Reid’s support is important because Nevada is a machine state and he has the biggest meanest machine. If the democrats retain his seat in November it will be in part due to his vasty influence. Ask Bernie Sanders how that Reid’s machine rolled over him in the Nevada caucuses when Sanders himself was all but certain he was going to win.

  2. Who knows why he went public, that was pretty dumb. I for once doubt very much Reid told him what he alleges. Now if he did, is almost a certainty it happened in a private conversation without any witnesses. He says and she says kind of thing.

“My campaign is about me being an American.”

said the candidate.

I’d hope it would be about more than that. Otherwise, why run? “My being an American” is something any one of us can claim, and it hardly amounts to a platform.

This, in itself, tells me this guy is a lightweight. Which seems to be what Reid’s people tried to get him to see: “Where is your platform, your track record? Running for Congress is about more than thinking that being a Congressman is a cool idea.”

Now he’s morphed it into “Reid told me not to run because I’m a Muslim” which kind of proves their point, he’s a self-serving lightweight. And Reid’s spokeswoman was quite blunt about that:

“Jesse Sbaih is a liar and that’s why he is going to lose.”

Would they be so blunt if there was any merit to this?

Somehow the way this guy is handling it only validates Reid’s point.

And Reid’s spokesperson is helping school the guy on politics. Reid very well may have said something along those lines. Who knows. I’d believe it if he did. But to call Reid out in public like this will not bode well for Mr. Sbaih’s future in Nevada politics. In fact, I’d hasten to say that we will never from him again after this cycle.

I am a candidate in this race in CD-3 in Nevada (SingerforCongress.com) and this story doesn’t add up. I’m not saying this just because he is my opponent but because of his own words. Here is a Jon Ralston interview from September, after he had already met with Harry Reid and was supposedly slandered:

I respect Jesse and his right to run and respect him as a decent and honest family man. However, his account does not add up in terms of showing that this happened whatsoever. I don’t know why he waited until now to release this but it comes after asking for Harry Reid’s endorsement and not receiving it. Why now?

A Lebanese immigrant Muslim running as a republican?? THIS year??

HAHAHAHAHA!!

Thanks for the laugh, I needed a good joke today

Here’s the thing…Reid is retiring from electoral politics. Which means he will never run for any office ever again. So even if the did say something like this, it doesn’t hurt him in the least with voters…because he doesn’t have to care about voters anymore.

His power as broker in NV is well established and he will continue to sway a lot of power that way for as long as he wants.

This guy wants to be an up and comer with the Democratic party? He just destroyed that bridge. And given that snowballs have a better chance of lasting in hell than a Lebanese immigrant Muslim does with the republican party…I’d say his entire political career just ended.

Either put up or shut up. If he can’t prove it, it’s another case of someone fishing for his 15 minutes of fame.

And in this case, from what I’m reading, he has zero proof.
