Discussion: Negative TV Ads Are Dominating In These Senate Races (CHART)

Discussion for article #228941

Thank Dog that Orygun is not on the list! The Koch boyz pulled their $2.6 mm ad but in support of Monica Wheby late last month when they and everyone else concluded that while she might be a super pediatric brain surgeon she was little more than a two time stalker and small time plagiarizer. And that is on one of her good days!

Her candidacy, now slowly circling the toilet, is reduced to buying ten second ad spots and not very many of those. And all negative of course since there is little good about her and nothing all to contrast.

Hell, she doesn’t even cast a shadow!

Now the rest of ya’ll in

Iowa
Kentucky
Colorado
Ja-Ja
North Carolina
Alaska
Kans Ass
Michigan
New Hampshire
South Dakota

GOTV and open up a can of Whoop-Ass on the GOTP!!

Gawd I feel sorry for NC (Iowa too)…it must be hell to turn on the TV there. And I thought I had it bad in Michigan. No fucking way…not after looking at that chart.

Do ads work? They mostly just annoy, don’t they?

They annoy the fuck out of me!

Especially the Pat Roberts ad bemoaning what we’ll do about his past accomplishments if we don’t re-elect him. That doesn’t even make any god damned sense.

Everybody whines about negative ads, but the good ones work—which is why they are so numerous.

You suck.
No, you suck.
My opponent sucks more.
I’m disturbed to hear my opponent say that I suck where really he sucks even more more.
You suck, and also you didn’t answer “I hate gays” on the purity questionnaire.
Some people have said that you club baby seals.
That’s a god damn lie. I just shoot them like a good RED BLOODED AMERICAN
You just took the good lord’s name in vain.
I’ll take more than that if you push me too far! I’ll break you in half like a boy!
My opponent is a registered Islamist sex offender.
He was eighteen, and he just carried my bags, Mr. wide stance in the airport!
I have a wide stand because I’m a RED BLOODED AMERICAN MAN who knows how to stand like a REAL AMERICAN!
I’m pro gun.
I’m, pro gunner.
That doesn’t even make sense.
I’d shoot you where you stand if I had my gun!
Just like a RINO, always forget to bring a gun to a gun fight.
(Sound of mayhem)
(Both candidates remain unscathed.)
That’s no way to hold a gun. You have to draw and fire, LIKE THIS! Ahhhh…I shot myself…I fucking shot myself.
And you still suck.

Absolute nonsense!! The last twenty days of expenditure by Democrats will be spent on the ground knocking on doors and phonebanks and Get out the vote, not lining the pockets of ad executives and TV stations, how did TV work out for Karl Rove and Addelson and Kochs in 2012

When in the mood for the network & cable toob, I’m proud to be a slightly to vastly time-delayed DVR owner!

Now go one step further and study whether there are palpable shifts in coverage/reporting on the networks and in the papers and by the other “news” outlets receiving the money. What better way to get your “fair and balanced” campaign coverage that to make yourself a massive source of ad revenue for a particular station/paper/outlet/whatever?

Well, the Dems need to explain to Iowans what a fraud Joni Ernst is: she has two government paychecks, and will get retirements from them (=military reserve and Iowa State Senate) and she wants a THIRD TAXPAYER-FUNDED paycheck as a Federal Senator.

She is the quintessential Tea Party fraudster, railing against everything government, but is embedded to the hilt in multiple government largess.

I don’t even watch the teevee and I know others like me that don’t. It would be nice to know what percentage of folks rarely watch teevee except for maybe a sports program here, or there, and if they vote.

Here in California’s 7th Congressional District, television has been non-stop ads lately for Ami Bera (D-incumbent) and for the odious Doug Ose ®. The ads put out by Bera, who is a physician and doing a decent job in Congress, are mostly positive with some negative jabs at Ose for outright lies and egregious behavior. The ads by Ose (who is a former congressman and extremely wealthy but never apparently held a real job) are nothing but smears talking about how Bera is wealthy, that he’s an awful person, and that, during the unprecedented drought in our state has failed to bring us water (that’s not a joke – the ad said that). All the others are from PACs and, without exception they are breathlessly negative. And they run every single commercial break during every single program. It’s disturbing and disgusting, and “they” say that the race is actually tight. If Ose pulls this one out, it’s a damned crime and it will show that any a$$hole can win a congressional seat if he just wants it bad enough to make every constituent nauseous.

Off year elections are a different world.

You should see what is happening here in Minnesota.
The floundering Mike McFadden is actually running ads claiming he is an INDEPENDENT who will “never vote 97% with ANY PARTY LEADER” and touting how INDEPENDENT he is (with no mention that he is the Republican Candidate ANYWHERE in his ads.) Pitiful really. A sign of how desperate he has become.
The outside money is really starting to pour in however, with Americans for Prosperity hammering Gov. Mark Dayton at every opportunity.
Last night on the local NBC news station (KARE 11) broadcast I counted 24 straight Republican Ads. Not one single ad for a Democrat during the entire nightly news broadcast.
Wow.
