Discussion for article #228357
I believe every American has the right to be as stupid as he wants to be.
But I don’t believe anyone, parents and otherwise, has the right to force stupidity and ignorance upon their children and their children’s children.
I have a feeling the College Board is going to tell them to shove it, if their reaction to the Denver student protests is any clue. On another note, its completely not shocking that only Republican headed school boards seem to have some problem with the “ideological bias” of the new curriculum.
I’m honestly fed up with the never ending attempts to alter American History so as to make it conform to someone’s ideology. It should be based solely on the facts and nothing else, and if these Conservative dunderheads can’t stand the facts contradicting their precious mythology, then tough.
Bottom line is that conservatives don’t want to admit that the truth hurts.
That’s not a job application rejection letter, son – that’s freedom.
Teatroll Rosetta Stone: “Societal introspection is anathema to our dogma.”
Remember when we used to criticize the Eastern Bloc for being afraid of political honesty in education and public discourse?
They aren’t around any more.
If WE dont like it, then it NEVER happened.
History is written by the winners… er, the morons…
I’ll go further—if you want your own kids to be ignorant, that’s wrong but they’re your kids. I just don’t want people to force other people’s kids to be ignorant. That’s where I draw the line.
The story as it appeared in the Omaha World Herald http://www.omaha.com/news/nebraska/nebraska-ed-board-considers-public-rebuke-of-ap-history-course/article_ba748647-6553-5f23-b110-c6ed60daba2b.html?mode=jqm.
This is the 2nd recent article with the earlier article receiving intelligent push back from UNL faculty. The reasoning of one of the extremist Republicans Board members is also revealed. http://www.omaha.com/news/metro/new-ap-history-course-outline-takes-flak-from-the-right/article_c0aded0e-a342-5b5c-8053-b4b13b079e6a.html
These morons don’t understand how the field of history works. It’s about critically examining the past, not using it to tell bedtime stories.
In short, if a history makes you feel better about yourself and your past, it’s doing it wrong.

LIbtards HATE America by FOCUSing on the NEgatives!!1!!1one!!1!!!
Seems to me that a school board that supports ignorance is about as unpatriotic as it gets.
How can we learn from our mistakes if we don’t admit that they exist?
The race is on.
BaggerLand is demographically defunct. We know that. And, most important, BaggerLeadership and the 0.001% know that. HOWEVER, there is hope that the new generations, say those (whatever their background) born in time to take over when Goober dies off, can be braindeaded enough so that the Ideology makes more sense to them than it does to those of us posting here
The last thing in the world republicans want is a bunch smart people running around. Real American’s don’t ask questions.
Yep.
It’s impossible to accept conservative ideology unless you’ve got some serious blind spots in your education, which is why GOPers want the worst education system possible.
They could always take the AP History guidelines and burn them in the street. That might get the point across.
