Way to go, Nebraska! That took some political courage.

I promise I’ll never mistake you for Kansas again

Congratulations Senator Chambers. A new gold standard for an individual who wants to do the right thing and spends decades working to accomplish that goal. Well done Senator, well done.

Nebraska joins 18 other states and Washington, D.C., in banning the ultimate punishment.

This is important for one reason: Should the death penalty ever be declared unconstitutional and the revenge crowd ever seek to adopt a Constitutional Amendment allowing the DP, they don’t have the numbers. Takes the ratification of 38 states to ratify an amendment.

Nebraska is easy to remember. It looks like Slave-1.

A conservative state repealing the death penalty, who wouldda’ thunk?

Abolishing the death penalty = embracing “limited government.”

I don’t respect conservatives who claim they’re for small government while supporting the death penalty, solitary confinement, strip searches, police brutality, etc.

But I’m glad to see some conservatives in Nebraska share my liberal belief in limited government.

Once the pretense is dropped that lethal injection exists for the avoidance of cruelty towards the prisoner, as opposed to the avoidance of nightmares and PTSD among guards, lawyers and witnesses, then support for the death penalty fades quickly. Only in a small minority of states are people still bloodthirsty enough to prefer more brutal methods.

Ernie sometimes spews cringe worthy statements, but he’s right on here.

Thank you so very much! Now if we could get this abolishment elevated to the national level! Not in my name, …not in my name shall my government intently kill a fellow citizen, guilty or not, be horrifically executed in my name!

A prisoner on Nebraska’s death row died the other day, he’d spent 30 years waiting to be put to death and developed cancer instead.

The bill was introduced by independent Sen. Ernie Chambers, who has fought for four decades to repeal the death penalty.

Thank you for your fight, Senator Chambers. May we all learn such persistence.

Ha! Well, I was speaking politically as opposed to geographically, but thanks for the tip

Thank you, Nebraska, for choosing life and mercy in a small-minded, angry time in our history. Very much to your credit.

There have been other recent victories for criminal justice reform.

California passed a ballot measure reducing sentences for non-violent crimes.

Wisconsin passed a law for shootings by cops to be investigated by someone outside the police dept which employed the shooter.

Colorado and certain other states legalized marijuana.

And Kansas looks like the box that Nebraska came in.

Bravo Sen. Chambers and bravo Nebraska.

Regardless of the political stripe or the motive, Nebraska’s legislators did the right thing.
