Discussion: NC GOP Brags About Low Black Turnout–After Lobbying To Limit Early Voting

They used to pretend it wasn’t to suppress Democratic votes. Now it’s blatant. They brag about it. In the next breath they talk about respect for the Constitution.

So on Wednesday I’ll be writing my local Democratic chair. And I’ll tell him that I’m a permanent volunteer now and will do whatever kind of work he can use, including long-term communications planning and content creation. The GOP has gone to war against us and we need to suit up and fight back over the long haul.

Nice of them to brag about their success in suppressing black turnout in early voting before actual Election Day – when there is time for those voters to get really, really offended and still make it to the polls tomorrow.

40 years old, white, and I’ve now voted in 4 different states – never waited more than 10 minutes to vote. Ever. We’ve gotta go the way my home state has (and apparently yours as well). All mail. No lines at all.

They are BRAGGING that they have successfully suppressed the vote of Blacks, while increasing the vote of WHITES yet, they insist that is’s NOT RACIST AT ALL.
ok.sure.

“What’s scary is how many people don’t realize that racism is written into your system in America. We had a very simple, blatant system [in South Africa]. You could see where the tumor was, and you could cut it out. In America, the tumor masquerades as an organ, and you don’t know which parts to cut out because it’s hard to convince people that there’s a problem in the first place.” — Trevor Noah

IN YOUR FACE AMERICA

See how the Republicans are. They CAN’T WIN any other way but by STEALING AND RIGGING the elections their way.

Utah has reported polling locations to be much less in number this elections cycle and those are closed EARLY. For early voting.

And purging of voter records by removing voter addresses.

Our Government is umder siege.

“That and four other restrictive provisions in the law were struck down by an appeals court that said they were passed with the intent to discriminate against minorities.”

NC GOP: “Yes we klan! Yes we klan! Yes we klan!”

Reverend Barber and all the good people fighting for their rights in North Carolina have been given a challenge by this GOP fuck.

An “in your face” challenge.

Cat must have SOME nerve.

Pretty astounding to look at these stats of registered voters in NC counties and see some with fewer than 100 blacks. There’s one, Graham, with 4! Mostly NW counties, and a few between middle and coastal. And I bet a lot of those western counties were strong republican after the civil war because they were anti-slavery leaning folks.

Democrats donated to open that firebombed GOP office for some fucking reason. Like I said back then, not a dime of my money will go towards oppressors for any reason.

The joke is on them. While AA early voting is down, on Election Day it will be up compared to 4 years ago so the GOP attempt to overcome the D advantage in early voting will hit a wall.

This is not a guess. D advantage in the final days of early voting accelerated, indicating a reservoir of voters the GOP can not match. I suspect Hillary will win NC going away, maybe by 5 points or more. Many polls are calling NC a toss-up, despite H’s large early vote advantage, on the notion that because AA early vote is down, the Election Day turnout strongly favoring white and the GOP will be the same. It won’t. There is no reason to believe that the late surge in AA and Dem early voting will abate simply because it’s Election Day. The GOP will probably still win that day, but not by nearly as much as they need if 65% of the overall vote is already in, and the Dems lead by 9 (as the Siena poll indicated) or by 12 (as Q poll indicated).

When i voted in NC in 2012 i voted early and the line was only a few mins long. When i voted in NC in 2016 i voted early and the line was over 2 hours long.

The difference? The number of early voting sites was down compared to last time, the site i used in 2012 was gone for early voting.

I don’t live in a area with high a high Black population but its diverse in other ways and is heavy blue so it doesn’t surprise me that its one of the areas that they are trying to suppress turnout.

On the good news front, when i voted there was a person handing out voter guides for Democrats but there was not a person handing them out for Republicans, which was a first for me, normally both sides would have a person there passing things out. Also to note i have gotten many pro Dem mailers and not a single pro Republican one, but that might be because they are using data to have them not even bother sending me a pro Republican one.

I just hope that enough people are fed up enough with the NC state government that has been costing NC tons of jobs and money that it ends up costing them up and down the ballot, but i think its going to be a close one in NC either way.
