Discussion: Nation's Largest Law Enforcement Agency Rejects Body Cameras As Distraction

Cops reject body cameras because they kill the cops’ fun.

Then again, we might just end up with a bunch of footage showing CPB officers shooting unarmed teenagers as they walk home — in Mexico! That most assuredly would kill someone’s morale.

Now there’s an interesting idea. For any ammosexual who wants to carry a gun in public - here’s your body cam. Take it off, go to prison. I could get behind that.

Federal law enforcement should lead the reform movement for body cameras. The cost to provide training and equipment for the entire force is less than the price of one F-35 fighter. The DOJ should insist upon it.

Yep, of the fact these folks appear to be trying to pull the wool over the camera lens. Thank you, Jalus, for your post.

Meanwhile:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana investigators are combing through evidence in the shooting death earlier this week of a 6-year-old autistic boy after authorities charged two law enforcement officers in the shooting…

…Speaking of the body camera footage that was recovered from the officers, [Col. Mike Edmonson] said: “It is the most disturbing thing I’ve seen, and I will leave it at that.”

Yeah, I can see how having this body camera footage available to show what happened could be bad for “officer morale.” Well except among officers who are disgusted by such incidents and don’t want to be working alongside dangerously trigger-happy colleagues. I would hope that would be the majority of law enforcement officers, but if so their unions are doing an awesome job of protecting the minority who would rather such incidents are able to be covered up so that brutality can continue unimpeded.

"It found operating cameras may distract agents while they're performing their jobs, may hurt employee morale, and may be unsuited to the hot, dusty conditions in which Border Patrol agents often work."

Yeah, if you call having to conduct one’s self within the parameters of acceptability because the camera is watching to be a distraction.

As for hurting employee morale, if that’s the case, we need them even more than we thought. They should be proud to put their professionalism on display. The families of people killed by rogue cops have a much bigger problem than having one’s sensitive widdle feelings hurt.

If you can’t stand having a camera watching, find another line of work.

Pretty bold but not surprising.

Agree concerning the East Germans, disagree strongly about the Sovs.
