Discussion: Nadler Doubles Down On No Redactions: We're'Entitled To See All' Of Mueller Report

Sort of like one of those medical procedures that’s touted as making a woman a virgin again?

As long as Barr refuses to release the entire report and supporting documents he is obstructing justice.

Naw. He’d say that the only way to promote a stronger relationship with Russia is for us to share our secrets.

Fox would put endless hours of fawning coverage to the man who finally put the Cold War to rest and regained our natural alliance with russia.

It’s hard to imagine, stevie, how it could get any worse. And every new day presents another possibility.

The next candidate for President needs to be sincerely scrutinized unlike any before. The media will not assist, so we have to do this ourseives.

There will be two nominees in the next election, Trump and a Dem. Trump will not assent to any more scrutiny than he’s already been subjected to. So you’re proposing the Dem nominee needs every orifice explored, and held to a higher standard than Trump. I agree we don’t want a Dem that will surprise us. But will we rule one out for behavior similar to the faults Trumps possesses, albeit of a less severe level? Do we throw out Biden for unsolicited shoulder massages when Trump has confessed to grabbing genitals? Do we demand tax returns of Dems when Trump refuses? Are we tacitly granting that Trump in fact gets a pass on everything we agree will disqualify a Dem? Are we establishing two different sets of standards and acceptable behavior for nominees, one for Dems and another for the GOP?

He does live for this but all narcissists fear jail. They fear real authority. No one has exercised that firmly against him except the NYAG which shut down his foundation. Decisive moves get Trump to back down and cower. It’s hard to do when one party is fully complicit in protecting a traitor and relentless lawbreaker, but it must be done. I think impeachment is the remedy that catalyzes the nation to remove him and the entire GOP. I know Pelosi disagrees, but I think she’s thinking too cautiously and not fully grasping that we’re fighting an autocrat.

He is convinced the first opportunity someone will have to actually put him behind bars would be January 21st, 2025. And he has the funds to litigate and fight that as an actual date of incarceration for many years beyond that. I’m not convinced at this moment his fear of jail will cause him to act in a certain fashion. 2025+ is many years out in the future for a man soon to be 73. I’m sure many people, told to change their ways today or they’ll be jailed in 8 or 9 or 10 years, might tell you to piss off. One of them being Trump.

The Constitution is not the problem. It provides the framework of checks and balances under which our government is supposed to function and provides the remedy of removal through impeachment of any civil officer for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” The problem is in the implementation when the “sick minds among us” countenance amoral, undemocratic, inhumane actions by the administration as a means of political expediency. They did not find loopholes, they simply chose to ignore Constitutional constraints and the broader rule of law comfortable in their conviction that they will never be convicted by 2/3 of the Senate or held accountable by the electorate, many of whom either share their views or are too ignorant or misinformed to understand what is happening.

Hugh Sloan, Jr.: They never asked.

Congressman Nadler is not wrong. Let’s see how this all plays out.

That’s a question of political will. If we want to impeach him, we can. Impeachment would also yield a number of criminal referrals of him, his business entities and his associates which would make it tough for him to avoid. If we just want to make dozens of criminal referrals and not impeach, we can do that too and raise the cost to staying for him. In other words, if the consistently 60% of the country who oppose Trump to varying degrees woke up tomorrow and said ‘we’re done with Trump and it can’t wait’, we could throw him out or make him pay a very high price for staying. The evidence is in. It’s about political will at this point.

For example, I’d like to know if the reason Junior wasn’t indicted by Mueller (yet) was because they thought they needed a higher standard of evidence in a politically sensitive matter, or whether that matter is still on going in respect of the Roger Stone case and SDNY probes. If Mueller didn’t indict that punk b/c he thought he needed more evidence, I’d question that decision.

If what I read is correct, we really need to be watching what Barr is doing to SDNY. Much of Chump’s reasoning behind Barr’s appointment may have been as much on that score as it was for OSC.

That’s the ticket. I love TPM and TPMers but we are atypical. And don’t get me wrong…we did a great thing in taking the House…

But there are more people more interested in the NCAA Final tonight …more interested in the latest iphone…

Than this.

There should have been a 10,000,000 person group of people kindly asking Mr. Barr about his actions after having assumed his duties as A.G. That should have happened the very week after the Barr first summary.

And what is puzzling is that there was always a contingent set of people with demonstrations planned in case Mueller was fired.

Well, this was worse… The United States Congress was fired.

Until someone slaps some major, hairy coconuts on the table and goes at Trump like a pissed off, ravenous badger I’ll be skeptical as to the existence of any Dem truly up to test. And yes, mad, hungry badgers aren’t exactly judicious or circumspect in how they approach their prey, but what they lack in employing proper tactics they surely make up for in the shitstorm of bloodlust, fear and panic they rain down on their victims.

But let’s be fair about this: the Founding Fathers never anticipated someone like Trump, because mostly they were all honorable men.

The Founding Fathers were aware of the fine details of European history at the time. They were under no delusion about the existence of dishonorably men, or of the various means by which dishonorable men can attain great power.

Anybody familiar with the history of ancient Greece would know of the potential damage a demagogue can do. That’s why the Constitution was designed with checks and balances in it.

President Trump has been committing impeachable acts basically since the time he was sworn in. The Emoluments clause alone provides adequate grounds for impeachment, but abusing his power to profit his private interests is hardly the only offense.

Beware all who enter here, there be gloom and doom galore. We can never win, Trump wins every battle, every news cycle so don’t even bother. Our side is peopled by morons and simpletons who are too squeamish to be bold. If we don’t impeach in the house Trump will be emboldened. If we do impeach in the house Trump will be emboldened because the Senate will not impeach. People are not paying enough attention. People are paying too much attention to the wrong things. On and on it goes.

The key is Barr…and the non-wonkers who, mainly (like my kids and grandkids), are living their lives and enjoying themselves.

We (wonks and non-wonks) are going to have to insist on the Full Mueller Report and Barr is going to have to be neutralized.

I DO BELIEVE that all of Trump’s seemingly “strong” actions (including mouthing about Iran**) over the past 2 weeks or so are driven out of fear.

** There is NOBODY more ill-prepared to “lead his nation into war” than one Donald J. Trump.

A person who does that will have a very lucrative career afterwards in media/publishing and the speaking circuit at minimum.
