Discussion: NAACP Call For Special Prosecutor In Police Killing Of Man In Wheelchair

Discussion for article #241038

Police Chief Bobby Cummings said Thursday that McDole, who was left paralyzed by a shooting 10 years ago, failed to obey officers’ commands to show his hands and put his weapon down, and that he was shot as he began to remove the gun from his waist.

Cummings said he did not know if McDole pointed the gun at any of the four officers, “but when he went to remove the weapon, they engaged him.”

Video of the shooting posted online, which the chief said appeared to be authentic, shows an officer approaching McDole with a gun drawn, shouting “show me your hands” and "drop the gun."

Yeah, no Catch 22 self-contradictory orders there…

Previously paralyzed from a gunshot, apparently shoots self sometime later, then shot and killed by police under contradictory orders.

It’s hard to argue that guns don’t keep us safer.

Hum, police approach a black man that hasn’t shot at them and they shoot him.

A white man shoots at police and they don’t return fire.

I just saw the video of this killing. Make no mistake, the Police fired the first shot in less than 5 seconds of seeing the man. So was he holding a gun when they were ordering him to drop the gun and show his hands, or was he reaching for a gun? The Police Chief claimed the man was holding a gun and was reaching for into his waistband:

Cummings said he did not know if McDole pointed the gun at any of the four officers, “but when he went to remove the weapon, they engaged him.”

This has got to stop. We keep hearing about more cases of Police using deadly force in senseless situations. What’s more, these situations are usually followed by intense efforts to cover up the crimes they are committing.
