If the tax bill passes it will force massive cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, as well as portions of Social Security. It’s a Trojan horse.

Wait, didn’t that come directly from the hand of Trump? You know how this works, Mulvaney. If you’re not going to take away health care subsidies, what’s the pay-for to eliminate the estate tax? If GOP stops trying, who’s going to look out for the idle-rich offspring of megadonors?

And if history is any guide, their base won’t care, even as they lose their health insurance.

Explains The Donald’s failed casinos. He was willing to take the profit out of the gaming to get the gambling houses built.

Tax ā€œreformā€ is what matters to these fools. The Obamacare repeal is just icing on the cake.

Seriously, did the Republicans think that we are as dumb as they are deplorable’s. This was clearly used as a bargaining chip. I think we should just all forget your tax bill because it sucks. America is sick and tired of the incompetence of the Republicans and it’s for sure we are going to give them our own shellacking and then we as Democrats will do our own tax which will be to increase the taxes on the wealthy. They need to pay their fair share and they are not. Trickle down economics my butt. Paul Ryan go home you’re a waste and we’re tired of fighting you’re dumb ideas about budget and sticking it to the poor and the sick POS.

If corporations are people, then everyone should file and become a corporation with all the deductions and perks that come with it. Imagine deducting your home, car, gas, spouse, children, and vacations as a legitimate deduction. Make sure that not a single federal income tax dime is with held because you deducted it for all your personal expenses. For those that don’t have enough deductions, have little kiosks next to every Apple and Starbucks store to help form your own shell company and safely store your excess money offshore out of reach of uncle Sam.

These monsters call making healthcare so expensive that an estimate 13 MILLION AMERICANs will lose their insurance and taking 25 BILLION out of medicare an ā€œimpedimentā€.

The GOP, truly the party of disgrace and abomination.

Now take out the giveaways to millionaires and billionaires, and we might be talking.

Fighting for this mandate is tough for me. I understand premiums will rise if it’s dropped but premiums for my family are at $900 monthly. I’m forced to carry insurance at a base even though I’ve chosen to simply use a savings and pay out of pocket. Premiums going up will make no difference for me. I can’t afford it now.

Or it was thrown in as a bargaining chip to begin with. I’m really worried that this abomination hasn’t met with the same intensity of resistance as the Obamacare repeal efforts. There’s been some, but without the massive pressure of constituent calls and visits to the maybe half-dozen potential ā€œnoā€ votes this thing will go through. It seems less visceral than the explicit threat to people’s health care, but this is literally a threat to us all, and the country:

The crucial thing to realize is that this tax reform effort reflects more than the normal conservative allergic reaction to progressive taxation — going far beyond undoing the modest progressive grains achieved by Presidents Obama and Clinton. Three major changes stand out: These taxes are far more focused on owners than on workers, even by Republican standards. They take advantage of the ambiguity of what counts as income, weaponizing that vagueness to help their friends and hurt their enemies.

And after years of pushing for a safety net that works through the tax code, in order to keep more social democratic reforms at bay, Republicans now reveal their willingness to demolish even those modest protections. Their actions make clear that a welfare state based on tax credits and refunds, rather than universal commitments, is all too vulnerable.

By the great Mike Konczal. An important, frightening piece; posting it wherever it fits because everyone needs to realize the stakes.

See? No dilemma. The big donor overlords get their tax cut, and any GOP politicians that lose their seats can be replaced the following election cycle with a GOP candidate equally subservient to the demands of the overlords.

Well said. I am actually disappointed that the ā€œWHā€ (but probably not Trump) will eject the mandate repeal.
By keeping it in the bill, it was almost certain not to pass by the razor-thin ā€œmoderateā€ Republicans.

Without the mandate repeal, this steaming pile of excrement may just have a chance.
For what its worth, I have contacted my senator (Toomey R-PA). Yeah, he will be real receptive to my polite comments.

Edit: BTW, we all need to keep our humor under the Trump admin. If you haven’t seen it, this SNL high production video with Chance is pretty good.

The rich and corporations pay no taxes, they keep their wealth offshore. So there’s no reason to give them a tax break.

Your tax cutting plot won’t pass.
