Discussion: MSNBC Contributor Thinks Her On-Air Criticism May Have Cost Her Future Appearances On The Network

Discussion for article #225355

Well, that didn’t take long. She’s not the only one squeamish about the amount of deaths taking place, and not an indication of a cease fire.

Well… she surely knew that corporate news isn’t an open forum.

How many “forthcoming TV appearances” were cancelled?

That’s OK John McCain can always fill in.

She did seem to dive in deep quickly. Maybe she could’ve worked her way up to her criticism, especially if she really believed it. I mean, what did she expect?

I think they do it without thinking.

I left a comment the other day trying to head off what I feared would be the inevitable, progressives spouting anti-Semitic rants and got creamed for my efforts. It was my fault. I should’ve been clearer.

Anyway, CNN has this story online…

What really happened with NBC and Ayman Mohyeldin

Hey, maybe she’ll get Glenn Greenwald as a defense attorney.

ETA: Please note, I’m not accusing Rula Jebreal of being anti-Semitic. In fact, I thought her criticism of Andrea Mitchell was spot on. I’m simply saying that if she were anti-Semitic, Greenwald would defend her right to be so on 1st Amendment grounds.

The irony is that she made her comments at a time when even the broadcast network news shows are giving more coverage to the Palestinian side of the conflict than ever (the lopsided death toll leads every story, and that’s just for starters). And compounding that irony is that MSNBC (the one I watch, anyway; I never turn it on before mid-afternoon except on weekends) is a particularly inapt target for her criticism, especially the evening shows and MHP. Just tonight Chris Hayes had a riveting two-segment interview with the Palestinian-American boy (and his mother) who’d been beaten and then held by the Israeli police in the aftermath of his cousin’s “revenge killing” by Israeli thugs. And there’s an almost complete absence of apologists for the Israeli right. She just really picked the wrong target.

I guess she is unaware that Israel never apologized for Liberty incidence

True. Richard Engel has been doing an excellent job.

This is the way the media operates – like an organized crime syndicate.

Do you think that if she had offered a criticism of the Liberian government, or the Tibetan government or even the U.S. government that she would have met the same consequence?

I don’t blame any person for having been born Jewish or Chinese or Uyghur or German or Whatever. But how can your seriously argue that the state of Israel and all Jews who associate themselves with her don’t enjoy special privileges under the current Pax Ameicana?

Many of the Jewish people who claim the have a right to live in Palestine don’t even have any blood relatives who ever lived there before 1948.

What if a polish guy from Cleveland, OH decided to become a Buddhist? Suppose the idea really caught on and his children and his children’s children and his grandchildren’s grandchildren were all devout Buddhists. Does that give them the right to a “homeland” in India? Does that give them the right to kill any Hindus that get in their way?

Israel and by extension Jewish people have a very special place in our current global society and as far as I can tell this has a lot to do with prominent Jewish people occupying important positions in The United States and Europe.

What did she expect? Kinda like an Imam going to a Synagogue to deliver the message.

This is the same network that fired Keith Olbermann for less. Phil Griffin knows exactly who pays his salary. I am surprised he didn’t apologize to Bibi.

the American media is ridiculously pro-Israel. Heck, who knows, they might be more pro-Israel than the Israeli media! It’s so blatant. Pathetic, really.

She’s already made at least one big mistake, that should teach her a thing or two, especially about going over the top. Greenwald is sensationalism waiting to happen.

Her next step(s) should be well thought out, deliberative some might say.

The US (and MSNBC) are clearly on the wrong side of history on this.

Rula is given to outbursts and while I often agree with her, I don’t think she is well suited to broadcast journalism. Calm, reasonable consideration of the facts is preferable in my opinion.
