Discussion: Morrisey Drops Last-Ditch Ad To Stop 'Convicted Criminal' Blankenship In WV

I stopped listening to Morrisey after he left The Smiths.

Is there some psychological advantage to having Blankenship’s image at the end shake up an down. I understand the darkening of the image, like Time magazine and OJ, but the bouncing up and down at the end I’ve never noticed before.

This is my East Coast Liberal Elitist side asking, but the article says it’s a digital ad, which makes me wonder how effective is that going to be in WV? Since media is so cheap there by East Coast Liberal Elitist standards, why wouldn’t he spend the money to put it on broadcast TV?

The irony of a rightwingnut promoting federal mine safety regulations and the plight of children and widows as the ‘Hail Mary’ message to unseat the republican front-runner is NOT lost on me.

At the same time Morrisey’s image floats a bit side to side. Strange.

Because it will show endlessly on FACEBOOK - The Redneck’s Source of News.

A large majority of poor, white, blue-collar workers rely on FACEBOOK for most of their news and Social connections.

There is a reason why Cambridge Analytica and their Russian Troll Armies targeted poor, uneducated whites via Facebook.
It is wildly popular among that demographic.

Just wondering, not knowing the local rules. Could the two “ahem” resonable candidates split the vote and hand Blankenship the win? Paul Lepage redux

Pretty sure that “convicted criminal”=“conservative fighter”, Pat. See “Charlottesville White Supremacists” if you need a search term.

Also, GFY. You dipshits have made your fucking pathetic criminal bed. Enjoy lying in it.

The most offensive idea of all is that Morrissey or any other fucking Republican is any god damned better. If those bastards had their way, Blankenship’s crimes wouldn’t have been illegal in the first place, so in my book there isn’t enough tar and feathers for the whole GOP en masse.

It’s probably being released to get the coverage it’s getting here and elsewhere, not to actually run.

West Virginia is a mix of Catholics, Mainstream Protestants and Evangelicals. It will be interesting to see how they identify. Evangelicals are the most solid supporters of Trump, but Trump is telling them not to vote for Blankenship, who would seem to embody their ideals. At the dogwhistle level, you have this King Cyrus analogy applied to Trump and some groups are really on with it.

Seems to me that Blankenship is the real conservative, showing that he follows the GOP mantra of profit over human life even to the point of going to jail over it.

Lord knows it would be the first time.

My immigrant grandfather was a coal miner in the Kentucky/West Virginia area. (When he got to the US he originally wanted to be a cowboy but that didn’t work out.) His son gave coal mining a shot, said no thanks, got on his motorcycle and drove to California. That was back in the 1930s. There’s no family left back there, not for many decades.

The economic writing has been on the wall for a long time. There is a lot of wishful thinking about bringing the past back, but some occupations are moribund. There aren’t any coopers or candlestick makers or blacksmiths anymore. Folks need to realize that they may need to move on.

Instead, though, we’re probably going to have a Senator Blankenship. Because everything is screwed up.

He had a few good albums.

I dunno, if you’re a republican, that convicted criminal thingy can come in handy.

True that; apparently felonious behavior or a criminal record seems to working for Ollie North, Arapaio, and of course our Liar in Chief and his box-of-cat-turds cabinet.

@cameron_joseph,

The use of “drop” in the headline is misleading. It could be understood to mean that Morrisey stopped running his ad.
