Ted Cruz isn’t dumb…he just acts dumb for the Base. He’s really rather smart and shrewd…after all, he’s doing this so he can get very rich.

There’s dumb and there’s dumb. I must have watched the film “Trading Places” at least 3 times. And I still do not completely understand precisely how the boys bilked Randolph and Mortimer Duke at the Stock Market. I was never remotely good at business. On the other hand, any of the Business majors who took my classes as electives could recite it in their sleep. We all have our specialties.
Cruz has a gift, similar to that of Rand Paul, for dissembling. His aptitude for it is equal to that of Miles Davis on Trumpet.
But neither Miles nor Ted would ever make a competent United States President.

We were smart enough to wear the speedo throughout the tanning season. We didn’t get the tan wearing trunks and then make the switch.

Ever since I first heard about this guy (here on TPM) people have been saying Cruz is a really smart guy and I have yet to see any real evidence of him being other than a narcissistic, crazed loon. Other than their states of origin, I have yet to see how Cruz is any smarter than Rick Santorum.
I mean, I suppose you could say he is crazy like a Fox by pandering to the hard right and secretly knows better and just wanted to raise his profile in order to run for president by securing the love of the base, but others have done that without leaving themselves Bachmanned for the general election even if he wins the primary. (Which is no sure thing given how much he’s pissed off the establishment.)
Evidence of genius has never been presented.
